Once, long ago, I was standing atop these cliffs and staring out to sea, quite lost in my own thoughts. Suddenly, there was an almighty crashing sound. It was a kraken, and one of the largest I’d seen for quite some years! I was so startled, I couldn’t help but take leap backwards in surprise. Once I’d picked up myself up, battered and bloody, I decided to install this ladder in case any future visitors took a tumble in the same way. Nowadays, thanks to that fool Merrick, krakens aren’t the only sea monsters to watch for. Megalodons are once more roaming freely beneath the waves. They can prove quite the challenge even for experienced pirates. Why, I once battled a monstrous pale skinned beast at — well, I’ll save that tale for another time.

Treachery abounds! First me own cabin boy makes off with a box full o' cursed trinkets, an' now me crew are plotting to betray me an' save their own hides! Someone in these parts has been fillin' their heads with tales of a Ferryman. Promisin' that one day he'll come to take their souls back to the livin' world. An' when that day comes, surely they'll make off with me precious treasure! Well, I'll not make it easy for any scurvy wretch that's plannin' to jump ship. If ships can't make it to town in the dark without scuttlin' themselves on the rocks, it stands t' reason there'll be no Ferry to rescue them neither. It's settled, then – tonight I'll be indulgin' in a little treachery o' me own! Then we'll see if Mister Ferryman is still so keen to visit Sailor's Grave...

The Captain took me aside today. She wasn't cruel, only concerned. She reminded me that we know so little about the mer and where they came from. I am not about to listen to old stories of pirates being dragged under the waves and transformed! And if it were to happen, at least I could be with him. I dove into the sea again that night, eager to wash away the argument. I soon found that I was not the only one who had had a confrontation that day. There was a scratch on his arm. Deep, I think, though he would not let me touch it. Nor tend to the wound, not that I knew how. I swam with him instead. I awoke today to a wrongness – to silence. Now it is nearly the evening, and I have not heard his song. Every moment until sunset is agony.

These tankards bear the names 'Abstractacas' and 'Paladin Topaz', friends who loved to share a drink and a chat. They became famed for announcing news and rumours about the Sea of Thieves for all pirates to hear.

Finally, a balmy day, and a chance to document my research before it all spills out of my head and overboard. Ramsey has been thinking again, and that usually means I’m the one due for a headache. He called for me late last night… “Mercia. How might we stay safe in the Devil’s Shroud?” I just stared at him. We all know how dangerous that fog is. It surrounds the Sea of Thieves, but it ebbs and flows. Sometimes it swallows whole islands for months or even years at a time. Sail into that mist, and you’ll start to choke. The deck beneath your feet will splinter. The Shroud feasts on ships and sailors alike. Being me, of course I told Ramsey I’d find a way. I’ve left my notes tucked away at Ancient Spire. I’ll see what I can learn.

Over at Golden Sands, Umbra heard of a pirate who loved to write down their thoughts.

Of all the unsolved mysteries that haunt my dreams, none are more tantalising than the long-lost people known to pirates as ‘The Ancients’. Their legacy can be felt all across the Sea of Thieves, from ruins that lurk under deep waters to clifftop paintings that shame my humbler efforts. They clearly had a great wealth of knowledge and had mastered many curses and other arcane powers… and yet, something drove them to leave. Maybe some great war or calamity struck their civilisation? Perhaps it was simply time for them to move on. The truth, as it always has, eludes us all.

He betrays the Alliance and kills most of the members, except for {mention_character_name_3} who survives the attempted poisoning.

Merrick appears on Sharkbait Cove to tell the tale of how he summoned The Hungering One. Subsequently, he recruits other pirates to go to the specific co-ordinates of T-27 whilst playing his enchanted shanty to defeat The Hungering One in his steed. 
He placed journals around the Sea of Thieves that told his tale and gave pirates who sought these out replicas of his drum as well as a unique tattoo. During the summoning of the Hungering One this tattoo would glow.

Skeletons across the Sea of Thieves began to act strangely, so Larinna sent Bilge Rats to investigate what was happening. This Bilge Rat Crews didn't return however and so she has pirates follow their last known whereabouts to find out what happened to them.

Over the weeks pirates came across Skeletons attempting rituals to bring back Lord Graymarrow from the afterlife, the Shadows of Fate a by-product of their attempts to breach the barrier between our world and the Sea of the Damned.

It becomes known that the Skeletons sought to bring back Lord Graymarrow as a measure to fight against Captain Flameheart, hoping he would use his binding magics to seal away Flameheart once again.

Cole betrays {mention_character_firstname_2} by drugging her food, locking her up, killing {mention_character_nickname_3}, and turning her crew against her whilst she is out. Marisabel swore vengeance before she was sent to the Ferry of the Damned.

Here at the Ancient Isles University we are dedicated to understanding the history of the Sea of Thieves and its original inhabitants. Before we pirates came, a great people flourished and thrived here but now all the remains is remnants. What happened to them? How did they live? And what can we learn from them? Not only this but our own pirate history has gone undocumented, and we wish to create a record of all our happenings.

There was once an ancient Warrior who fell in love with a Sea Queen of the merfolk. Their love was all-consuming and neither could imagine life without the other. As time went by, they began to search for a way to bridge the gap between their two worlds. The Warrior met resistance from his people, but the merfolk possessed stones that could hold powerful magic and the Sea Queen believed it was these that would bring them together. The merfolk elders warned her that their kind were forbidden to use magic to turn humans into merfolk. But the Warrior and the Sea Queen believed their love was strong enough to survive the consequences for breaking the sacred rules of her people. So she used a Mermaid Gem to turn him.

Stitcher Jim believes that the appearance of the Fort of the Damned is the result of a ritual using the stolen Dark Relics. Such determination to get into our world… but are we stopping them or helping them by waking the Fort?!

The more I learn about Graymarrow, the more certain I am that we must recover and reunite the Shroudbreaker’s pieces. At this point, escaping into the Shroud may be our only means of escaping him. We need rest. He requires none. Fontaine believes we should surrender the one Shroudbreaker fragment we do possess, and plead for clemency. I, however, fear it is far too late. This chase has become a matter of pride for Graymarrow, and he wishes us gone for good. A confrontation seems inevitable, yet still we flee, speeding to Marauder’s Arch as our last supplies run dry… 

The Captain of the Ferry of the Damned who is tasked with ferrying souls from one place to the next, be that returning souls back to the land of the living or elsewhere. He seems to have taken this role as part of some oath or promise. 

In addition to shepherding souls he also keeps a keen eye out for potential threats to the Sea of Thieves and the pirates way of life.

How the Ferryman came to be is a mystery, much like the existence and appearance of the Ferry of the Damned. It is known that it has not always been there, however.

I'm not sure how much more of this I can take. Every time I hear shouting in the street or a bell ringing my heart leaps into my mouth. Knowing that the likes of Barbossa, Captain Redd and Jack Sparrow are just offshore, is terrifying. There isn't a moment of the day when I am not thinking about the inevitable attack. The waiting is crushing me. Many have died, but I don't have the money for passage and even if I did, where would I go? This island is my home but, lord help me, I don't want it to be my grave.

Now I understand why they call it a ‘Chest of Rage’. I can hear the souls inside and they ain’t stopped yelling and screaming, not once. I says to ’em, it’s nothing personal, just that I already had their belongings lying around from that Pendragon business. Dunn was the easiest to find, snoring his head off at a sea post with a splashtail in one hand and in the other. He didn’t even wake up! Cavendish was next. Her Dad was the one whose soul got trapped on the Blackwyche back in the day, so bad luck must run in the family. Rodriguez put up a fight and nearly stuck me. Too bad I’d already slipped something into her grog. Well, she doesn’t need a stomach no more… 

This painting captured four of the fanciest pirates ever to sail the Sea of Thieves. They loved dressing up at gatherings of likeminded sailors.

In the tavern at Ancient Spire Outpost, there is a painting of four very fancy pirates.

First Mate Yenay is a pirate who's journals can be found in the Coral Fortress. In them she speaks of a love that blossomed between her and a merfolk. Like all star crossed lovers however, this romance was doomed. One day the mer came to her with scratches on his arm and no Song about his presence. Soon after he turned into a Siren and attacked the ship Yenay was a crewmember aboard.

Yenay became determined at that point to find a cure that would revert the Mer from being a Siren.

Currently we do not know Yenay's whereabouts or what she looks like.

Flameheart grew to prominence with the tactics of intimidation and force at his disposal, never afraid to take what he felt was his. Ruthless and with fiery ambition, he let his rage consume him.

Not much is remembered about the man Flameheart was before he became a Skeleton Lord, or the spectral skeleton head we see in the skies today.

With his flagship the Burning Blade, he led an armada that nearly brought the Sea of Thieves to it's knees. His finest and most loyal lieutenants were the Ashen Lords, fearsome undead warriors who had been crafted from arcane magic and willing victims.

He sealed himself away in his remains, that were then hidden on Flintlock Peninsula, until the time was right for his return.

And return he did, when Pendragon released his soul from his skull, leading us to the great big angry shouty skull in the sky we have today.

His base of operations seems to have been the Heart of Fire, a cave network deep underneath the Devil's Thirst.

A highly aggressive and fiery Skeleton Lord who seeks dominance over the Sea of Thieves

You know how some people are good climbers? Well, I am a GREAT climber. That’s why I left this book up here, as proof. Well… I say “climb”. I actually used a cannon from the wreck of my sloop. But if you’re reading this, you must’ve had the same idea. This place has some amazing views, and I want to see them all! I do wish I had someone to talk to though… I hope you’re okay out there, Sudds. 

There are whispers, low and fearful, that Graymarrow has begun to wield some fell powers of his own. To whit, he has found a way to ‘maroon’ — for want of another term — the spirits of those he bests in battle. Souls imprisoned by such a curse can never find their way to the Ferry of the Damned, and remain lost. We sail at top speed to Sunken Grove, out in the Wilds. I am taking night watch. I doubt that I could sleep tonight… 

I reached another of Briggsy’s nests to find it empty, or so I thought at first. That was when I heard the cries for help. His shouting led me to a scrawny little man, whose head fell some way short of my shoulder, mewling from inside a barrel. Having climbed inside when Briggsy and her crew arrived, he had spent the night cowering in his keg, only to find the lid stuck fast. I released him in exchanged for what little coin he had, and he was only too happy to reveal Briggsy’s heading: Wanderer’s Refuge.

A merry chase I've been on! Now, at the end of it, I am sure it was hopeless from the start. I went to the seeress to ask a boon, which she agreed to grand if I could retrieve a lost monkey. Simple enough! For days I tracked it, the damned thing mocking me at every turn. I'd get close, only for it to chitter with glee and disappear into the mist. Eventually I managed to corner it. Suddenly there was a strange noise from the direction of the seeress' shack. The little beast cocked its head on one side and bolted in that direction. I am afeared to return to her. I have heard tales of what happens to those who fail Tia Dalma...

Snake has many voices and likes to play tricks. He coiled along a branch and waited until the Great Warrior was near. “Help me!” came the Sea Queen’s cry, “Won’t someone help me, for wicked One-Eye has me by the tail!” Warrior heard it all. Warrior ran through the trees, not looking up above his head, and whump! There came Singing Snake to coil around his throat. Snake is cunning, but Warrior is strong! He grabbed at Snake and hurled him up into the stars, where he has lived ever since! Sudds can’t get a good view from here. Needs to sail out to Old Harry’s place before daybreak…

Duke makes his presence known in the Sea of Thieves, taking up residence in the Taverns across the Seas. He acts as the representative for the ragtag group calling themselves the Bilge Rats, and introduces a new currency type – Doubloons.
Duke and the Bilge Rats set up the Bilge Rat Adventures, challenges for pirates to show their daring. The first Bilge Rat Adventure involved finding and sitting in Skeleton Thrones that they had built and hidden across the Sea of Thieves.

There was once an ancient Warrior who fell in love with a Sea Queen of the merfolk. Their love was all-consuming and neither could imagine life without the other so they began to search for a way to bridge the gap between their two worlds. The Warrior was willing to do anything to be by her side and attempted to harness the powerful forces of the Sea of Thieves.

The Ancients feared what would happen if the Warrior was to upset the balance of the Sea of Thieves. To put a stop to it, the Ancient King sought the assistance of the High Priest to prevent the Warrior from meeting with the Sea Queen. The High Priest used a potion to change their voice, mimicking that of the Sea Queen and lure the Warrior to an unknown island. There, the High Priest attempted to poison the Warrior with an arrow. The High Priest was not successful however, as the poison was not enough to put down the Warrior, and they were flung from the cliff and into the sea.

Feared by what would happen if the Sea Queen and the Warrior's love was to upset the balance of the Sea of Thieves, the Ancients tried to put a stop to it.

They say that where Merrick once camped on Shark Bait Cove, his son now displays a portrait.

"If you want peace, prepare for war." Words spoken by a general whose bones long ago crumbled to dust. Words that these bones still remember. I have spent my life preparing for war. More than that – I have crafter war, mastered the art of it. Once, I came close to losing myself to its flames. My efforts were unappreciated, my finest weapons used by pitiful pirates to skewer snakes or hack at one another in some pointless brawl, but I persisted. My loyal Skeleton Fleets introduced the Sea of Thieves to the truth of war. Better yet, my efforts at The Reaper's Hideout taught pirates to war among themselves. None of it has been enough, but now... an invitation. The ultimate test of my skills. Fashioning a War that will end all Wars. How can I possibly refuse?

{mention_character_lastname_3}'s last charge was to find and vanquish Lord {mention_character_lastname_4}, however in a turn of events he found himself at the mercy of this merciless Skeleton Lord.
Shipwrecked on Shipwreck Bay, Pendragon lay trapped beneath a mast as Lord Graymarrow took his Sword of Souls and learnt of how to bind souls by studying the sword. Graymarrow then sealed away Pendragon in a portrait of himself in the Captain's Quarters of the shipwrecked Blackwyche.

{mention_character_firstname_2} noticed that there was a mermen searching for her, no matter where she sailed, he was there. Over their repeated meetings they grow closer until the day where the mer showed to Yenay a scratch on his arm. The next day, Yenay could no longer hear the song of her merman following her, there was only silence.

To save her mermen, Yenay set sail to find a fabled magical item in the Shrine of Ocean's Fortune. Although his quest was unsuccessful, Yenay set out to find the {mention_character_nickname_3} to help him return her mer.

Yenay seeks a cure to save her merman that turned into a Siren.

This is a weird place. It looks like someone used powder kegs to blow their way down into whatever lies below this island. Maybe they managed it somehow, maybe not. Either way, the tunnel they left behind collapsed a long time ago. There has to be another way down. Ancient civilisations love putting secret passages in stuff. It’s a well-known fact! Ask anyone. After witnessing a vision from an enchanted skull, a young {mention_character_nickname_2} seeks the Sea of Thieves with two friends and sets up the Trading Company as a means to attain the self she saw in her vision. 
The Gold Hoarder Heathcliffe is instrumental in her setting up the Trading Company. The Order of Souls works closely with the Gold Hoarders, providing them with maps to buried treasure that they gleam from scrying the skulls of dead pirates. They also wish to rid the Sea of Thieves of its skeletal denizens and to learn all of its arcane secrets.

Madame Olivia comes to the Sea of Thieves to pursue a vision of herself, setting up the Order of Souls in the process.

Mercia was part of Ramsey Singh's crew when they first made passing through the Devil's Shroud and into the Sea of Thieves.
Initially a sceptic about all things magical, she became a believer and studied much of the mysteries in the Sea of Thieves. She wrote her findings in many tomes detailing histories and artefacts, keeping them locked away.
Perhaps the most known thing about her is that she wore the Merfolk Earrings, enchanted jewellery that allowed the wearer to understand the Merfolk's Song.

Her fate or whereabouts are currently unknown.

I have become used to hiding. I hid my arm from customers, not to mention my hag of a sister, when my skeletal curse first began to claim it. Later, I hid my name, then my voice, and – reluctantly – my face. Whenever a fresh start was needed, I would depart. Retreat, too, is a part of war. Thankfully, I have become quite adept at sailing beneath the waves, an advantage shared both by Davy Jones and the Flying Dutchman itself. Jones was wise to ally with the Sirens. Temperamental as they are, their spires and fortresses are born from the sea, and Jones cannot set foot on land. As his allies, we shall soon carry the Eternal Bargain of Davy Jones to places he may not tread. I have arrived, and the Dark Brethren court is about to form...

Ever the schmoozer, Duke strikes up a bargain with the Trading Companies in order to earn their favour. He had recently learnt of places where the Skellies had been stashing their Gunpowder Kegs and got pirates to deliver those Kegs to the Trading Companies. In return Duke earned the right to open up his own shop, the Black Market. The Black Market would be where Duke offered rare and unique items in exchange for Doubloons and Gold.

Duke has pirates recover stashes of gunpowder from the Skellies and give them to the Trading Companies.

Well, this is sticky pickle and no mistake. Must've hit my head really hard falling overboard, 'cost I've got no clue how I washed up here. S'pose there's no use crying about it. I've gathered up all the wood I can and set a fire to smoking. That's bound to catch an eye or two. It's a bit eerie, this place. Almost reminds me of the reef I stranded Rotten Roald on, so I could keep all the haul for my own two pockets. In fact, I could have sworn I already wrote all this down yesterday. Or was it the day before? Or the day before that? I can't rightly recall. Ship ahoy! Rescued at last... Cor, there's someone properly scary at the helm. Can't help but wonder what's underneath that mask...

One of the earliest observed battles in the Sea of Thieves is the fight between the crews of the Mermaid's Fortune, the Serpent's Lie, and the Mad Monkey. 
Although it looked like the Mermaid's Fortune was going to win, the crews of the Serpent's Lie and Mad Monkey lured the former crew to drink with them. Whilst the crew of the Mermaid's Fortune was inebriated, the latter crews laid into the Mermaid's Fortune ship and sunk it. Those two crews then turned against each other and it is unknown who the victor was.

Perhaps the Sea of Thieves most knowledgeable man when it comes to the stars, constellations, and legends of the Ancients.

A Junior Trader with the Grand Maritime Union, {mention_character_firstname_3} climbs the ranks and earns herself enough reputation within the company to be tasked with bringing a fleet of ships to the Sea of Thieves in order to establish dominance.

The fleet is unsuccessful in passing through the Shroud, with Mollie's ship barely making it through. As they arrive they are attacked by pirates and Mollie, along with a few other high ranking members of the GMU, are left to fend for themselves with only a rowboat and meagre supplies. They manage to row to a nearby island where, after spending a night there, Mollie finds herself abandoned as her fellow GMU superiors absconded with everything of value. She does manage to convince a group of passing pirates to let her come aboard in exchange for her doing her bit on the ship.

After climbing the ranks of the Grand Maritime Union, Mollie earns herself enough reputation within the company to bring a fleet of ships to the Sea of Thieves.

The original Trading Companies of the Sea of Thieves had long maintained a working balance, but danger lurks on the horizon and each Company  decided that a show of strength is needed! They started to seek out Emissaries to act as their representatives on the waves

A new landmark! This stricken ship certainly wasn’t here during my last visit. There’s no sign of her crew, so perhaps they fell overboard and met their end. Things are very different on the Sea of Thieves — thanks in no small part to my own adventures, I must confess. We have an… arrangement… with the merfolk who live deep under the waves. Should any pirate become lost at sea, stranded, they’ll help them back to their ship. If you should find yourself flung overboard, traveller, look for the merfolk’s beacon before the sharks get your scent. You’ll be glad you did! 

Briggsy made many friends and enemies across the Sea of Thieves. Her old shipmate, a reclusive navigator named Sudds, may know more about the Shroudbreaker fragments.

I tried every trick I could think of to stay awake, but I nodded off up on this bridge, amongst another group of skeletons. I dreamed there was a man standing over me, stern and smart. He reminded me a bit of that old captain Jill used to idolise… It was like he was trying to say something… and then KABOOM! Lightning strike. I woke up in SUCH a panic! My foot got tangled in some ropes and I started screaming. I tugged as hard as I could… and all of the cages toppled off the bridge. Oops. I’m done. Dawn is here and I didn’t see one single ghost. I’ll leave my books behind in case someone else has better luck. I’m coming home now, Dad. Once again, I’m coming home and Jill isn’t. Sorry. 

For the fourth year of the Festival of the Damned — the event to celebrate {mention_character_nickname_2} — {mention_character_nickname_3} himself encouraged crews to fight together in a common goal to dispatch undead threats wherever they lurked. Ramsey supplied the Bilge Rats to reward the pirates who participated in these actions, but his motives remain a mystery.

If I’m right, the key to breaching the Shroud has been in front of me all along. We like to think of ourselves as being the first to find a way of reaching the Sea of Thieves, but that isn’t the truth. Not one bit…

Captain Jaq was a very popular pirate, a lady with the gift of charisma and a penchant for friendly discourse. According to notes of concern collected by Umbra, Jaq took a small hiatus from the seas and her friends missed her terribly.

This rare thief leapt from the crow's nest perhaps one time too many. According to Umbra's notes, these are the remains of IOnEI-Falcon, who would famously leap from the crow's nest to take a shortcut to the Ferry. In those days, before people knew how healthy bananas were, he realised it was a roundabout way to feel ship-shape again.

On Shipwreck Bay, they say a pirate's bones can be found beside a legendary shipwreck.

Did Guybrush Threepwood make it to the Sea of Thieves? I may never know for sure. I, on the other hand, never arrived. Also, I think I might be slightly dead. The Headless Monkey is a wreck once again, already part of the weird pirate town they've got going on here. There'll be no salvaging her this time. I do still have a ship, though – my little glass-bottomed boat! How can it be here, in this strange not-life full of ghostly voices? Maybe I shouldn't ask. My crew are off in the tavern, and I don't think they'll be leaving any time soon. They're at home here in a way that I can never be. I miss the sunlight! I'm going to set sail, find a way back to life and then... Well, let's see what the seas have in store! I've realised revenge isn't worth living, and certainly not dying for.

I made it, Dad! I know you told me my ratty old sloop couldn’t make it safely through the Wilds, but I’m here in one piece. And that’s good, I mean, this island is one of the most haunted places there is. They definitely don’t need my ghost here, too. After his arrival in the Sea of Thieves, {mention_character_name_2} found that he has no control to the pirate's life here. Dreaming of piles of glittering gems or huge leviathans the size of galleons, Ramsey wonders what lies on the other side of the fog.

He records many attempts with various ships of differing sizes to find out the twisting routes that provide safe passage through the shroud.

Today, with more than a little reluctance, I sold my beautiful glass-bottomed boat. I could hardly bear to let her go, but she's too small and too slow for the kind of lengthy sea journey I'll be embarking on. So it's bye-bye, boat. I have a pressing need for a galleon, something that will see me through thick and thin as I head out on a journey to find the man who framed me. Luckily, that same man once chartered my glass-bottomed boat and led me to the location of a particularly spectacular shipwreck. It's a shipwreck I intend to salvage, repair, and use to track down the dolt who had me sent to jail in his stead. A dolt named Guybrush Threepwood.

Formed by a bunch of ex-Gold Hoarders who became enamoured with a new type of coin, the Ancient Coin. They can import various goods from outside the Sea of Thieves, including pets, ship designs, clothing and more, all for the exchange of Ancient Coins.
They are rumoured to work for someone powerful outside of the Sea of Thieves.

After years of scrapin' by with barely two coins to rub together, we've finally struck it rich! Me crew an' I are sailin' full speed with a hold full of glorious treasure. They said this 'Sea of Thieves' would be packed with plunder – an' knock me down with a feather if they weren't tellin' the truth. Who knew pirates had it in 'em? But I best be mindful that havin' a heaping hoard of plunder and keepin' said hoard are two very different prospects. What I wouldn't give for a pirate lair o' me own... Until I find the proper place to stash me loot, I've ordered me crew t' head far away from the Outposts. We'll leave the Sea of Thieves and chart a new course if we have to! Funny thing, though... All these jewels an' there's one I can't seem t' put down. I found it in me palm again just now. Best t' hide it from the crew. Best t' keep it close...

To this day he is chained to the helm and can't leave it. Wraiths, entities in the Sea of the Damned, help him by guiding souls to the Ferry of the Damned. The Ferryman's also assess threats to the Sea of Thieves and keep them locked away in the hold of the Ferry.

I spend my days and nights protecting the people of Isla Tesoro from pirates. But today I overheard the Captain arguing with the Mayor. I'm sure I heard mention of the Treasury and then the talk turned to that scoundrel, Jack Sparrow. Why do I risk life and limb every day to repel pirates, for the Mayor to keep one of them safe within our walls?! The Captain obviously shares my feelings, as their conversation ended abruptly when the Captain announced that, "Jack Sparrow will be the death of us all!"

My dearest love, the plan I spoke of may take some time, so I need you to be patient. I will find the heart of the Sunken Kingdom and beseech the Sea Queen to return you to me. Having learned her story, I know she will understand my pain. Perhaps she is the only one who truly can. By returning us, love will triumph over hate and I can't help but feel that is the ending she wanted for her own story.

As I explored the shipwrecks and delved ever deeper, I came to realise that a huge battle must have taken place here. Ships crashed right through the Shrine, which would surely have sent the Sirens into a fury. Each side must have sought to destroy the other. No sane captain would have sacrificed this many ships without a good cause. It would have taken two powerful captains to command such a battle. Who could have had such a commanding presence?

Tonight, when the others are asleep, I will go for a moonlight swim, and stay in the water with him until the dawn, or the sharks, come to part us.

We've no real hope of fighting her, not with such a meager crew. Which means there's only one other option really. If we can sail the Black Pearl into the crease of the map and cross between worlds, we might just give Jones the slip once and for all. Ta-ta, Tortuga. Adiós, Isla de Muerta. Au revoir, Saint Martin. It's time for Captain Jack Sparrow to sail beyond the horizon.

As part of Davy Jones' plans and his alliance with the Siren Queen,  Sirens begin attacking Pirates who spend too much time in open waters.

However above the waves the Siren Queens personal constructs, the Ocean Crawlers, attack pirates using their powerful poison, electrifying eel whips, and crushing claws.

Marisabel discovered the wreck of the Silver Blade near the island where she grew up. While exploring the wreck, she found the Whispering Chest with a notice in Merfolk language that reads "Do Not Open". Unsure of what to do with it and as she previously found earrings that allowed her to talk with Merfolk, she went to a meeting place on an island near Golden Sands Outpost to return this mysterious chest to the mer people.

However, the Merfolk reacted viscerally to the presence of the Chest, warning not to open it or throw it in the sea. The mer fled as soon as the Chest began to hum.

Unsure of what to do with the cursed Chest she found in the wreck of the Silver Blade, Marisabel takes it to the Merfolk to get answers.

The notorious Captain {mention_character_lastname_3}, with his ruthless attitude and belief in the freedom of a pirate's life, began his campaign to become ruler of the Sea of Thieves. With his flagship the Burning Blade and an armada of skeletons under his command, Flameheart Sr's reign of terror started.

{mention_character_firstname_2} discovered that an ancient relic known as the Shroudbreaker would allow her to pass through the Devil's Shroud and arrive to the fabled Shores of Gold. Using the Shroudbreaker she sailed to Tribute Peak and crashed her sloop the Homeward Dove deep inland when she arrived.

Exploring the ruins of the Shores of Gold, Briggsy discovered evidence of an Ancient Civilisation but also more recent activity. She soon came to realise the place is used by the Gold Hoarder Trading Company as she delved deeper into the cave network.

Whilst down in the tunnels, she picked up a Gold Coin that led to her becoming cursed. The Gold Hoarder promises Briggsy a cure for the Skeleton Curse if she did as he wanted, but she defies him, broke apart the gems of the Shroudbreaker and hid the relic back in its resting place.

Briggsy finds the Shores of Gold, learns the truth of the island, and becomes cursed in the process.

If I'm to locate Threepwood and teach him a very pointy lesson about having innocent people locked up so you can steal their beverages, I'll need help. I knew I'd need the help of the local authorities, but infurtatingly, Governor Marley turned out to have eloped with none other than Threepwood himself. Yuck! Fortunately, if there is one thing we're not lacking in this part of the world, it's bureaucrats. Governor Phatt was ready and willing to meet with me. I must confess that it turns my stomach to think of my pieces of eight going to feed that man's endless gluttony, but I'm willing to do what must be done.  Besides, if what I hear about Threepwood's honeymoon destination is true, I'll soon have more than enough treasure in my hold...

Though the transformation was successful, it came at a terrible cost... it unleashed a curse that robbed the Queen and her court of their song. Now, a merfolk's song is so much more than a pretty tune. It is part of who they are, their soul and their collective memory. Without their song these merfolk became something else, something twisted and dark; the sleeping merfolk I had seen on my adventures. This new branch became known as the Sirens. The curse that tore their song from them became known as the Whispering Plague, robbing them of who they were and leaving only darkness.

They couldn’t simply pack up and leave when the fog drew in… I’ll need to cross-reference some of my oldest notes, stashed away back at Thieves’ Haven. Our first hideout! How nostalgic.

The Merfolk tried to fight Old Mother, but unsuccessfully. Eventually, they sought help from the Ancients to find a way to be rid of Old Mother.

According to tales passed down in the stars and in cave paintings, a Warrior known as 'Warmonger' fashioned poisoned arrows from feathers stolen from Eagle and drenched with venom from Snake. But not even the most powerful magical weapons would have been enough to deal a mortal blow to Old Mother. Instead, these arrows put it into a deep sleep and she sank to the ocean floor. The Ancients then forged great chains to bind her and placed a curse on them. The links could never be broken, and the locks would never rust or be broken. Old Mother lay there, trapped, until she died.

Merfolk sought help from the Ancients to tie Old Mother, the oldest Kraken known to have existed, with magically imbued chains until she died.

I've come across many strange and interesting items in my time, but none stranger and more interesting than the seashell earring. I found what I took to be a run-of-the-mill seashell in rockpool that turned out to be an earring. How odd, I mused out loud, as I inspected it more closely. The sound of my voice triggered the earring and I heard the song of the merfolk, telling me to meet them. Which I did. They explained everything to me, and my eyes were opened to the world of possibilities that awaited me, deep beneath the ocean waves.

War was declared. Battle lines drawn, Sea Queen on one side, Ancients and merfolk on the other. The Queen swelled her army, with minions that could take her war to the land-dwellers. Attacked to swell her Siren ranks; a single scratch could doom them. Nowhere was safe, on land or sea.

There was one story that really interested me though, tales of the Silver Blade being seen on the Sea of Thieves once more, with a new Captain. There were rumours that this Captain, a man by the name of Dimitri, discovered a long-forgotten Ancient Vault that contained a chest. A chest that wept. One pirate named it the Chest of Everlasting Sorrow, which seems fitting, as those that come in contact with it seem to have nothing but sorrow. Dimitri, his whole crew and the Silver Blade have not been seen for months. I wonder what happened to them.

Even as he tore our ship apart, he was weeping. Tears from those blank, pale eyes, no longer kind. Twin mirrors, reflecting my horrified face. The Captain is gone. She flung herself into the water with her pistol and blunderbuss, ignoring my panicked shriek not to hurt him. Buying us time. I don't feel despair. I don't even feel fury. I feel certainty, because I know what has to be done. Finally, it is my turn to rescue him. I am Yenay, First Mate no more. However long it takes me, I will not stop and I will not falter. Not until I am once again gazing into those kind eyes.

I don't understand it, my love. Why would the Sea King return to his people?! He must have known they hated and feared him? Why would he risk his life to seek peace? Perhaps, like me, he believed his love was stronger than any curse, even hatred. I wish I could tell you he was right, but what they did to him was terrible. They lured him, under a banner of peace, to a sacred place and they chained him there; but he was too strong for them. He broke free and they murdered him. Using binding magic, they bound his soul into a specially crafted chest, his bones scattered carelessly around it. This chest would be his eternal resting place. Forever weeping for the evils done to him and for the loss of his beloved queen.

A plaque reading 'LindsayElyse Mind Your Head' was fixed here. She didn't like taking the stairs and found a cannon more her style! The Tavern keeper decided to put this reminder up, in case LindsayElyse had already started drinking before climbing into the cannon.

The Warrior was strong, though, and did not fall. On discovering who shot him, he killed the High Priest and flung him from the cliff top where he had been hiding. This story seems so familiar to me. But I am at a loss, why did the merfolk want me to come here? What great evil do they fear? It can't be related to sharks; they seem to revere them rather than fear them. Did the Warrior become a merman and somehow upset the balance of the Sea of Thieves? Or did the Ancients manage to restrain him and the Queen, and it's their return to the Sea of Thieves that the merfolk fear?

All my life, I was told that to encounter Davy Jones was to be plunged into a nightmare. Today, his Dark Brethren has saved me from that same fate! Better yet, they have promised me passage out of the Sea of the Damned, where I have been unwittingly trapped for countless lifetimes. My old crew are at my side, looking just as I remember them. Perhaps they're nothing more than my own hazy memories, but they can fight well enough. Jones has promised us an end to our eternal imprisonment, no longer shall those of us who broke the Code be forced to suffer for our sins! I shall take up arms against the pirates who abandoned me. I shall fight for my freedom. And I shall serve the Dark Brethren – Lords of the Sea!

It seems the Ancients feared the Sirens, but not for the same reasons we do today. They feared that they impacted the balance of something within the Sea of Thieves, something that they held dear. They seemed to think that the heart of this problem was someone called the Sea King. The magic that turned him into a Siren was forbidden, and released a curse on the Sea Queen (his lover) and all her court. This curse became known as The Whispering Plague and caused them all to forget who and what they had been, perhaps a blessing in disguise? The Ancients sought a way to minimise the effect of this imbalance by binding the Sea King forever.

I’ve made a huge mistake. I only wanted a little thing. Just a keepsake, something to prove I’ve been here. Just one little trinket from a treasure pile. I don’t feel sick, or cursed. I feel great! And that’s bad, because I haven’t slept or eaten in days. There’s a different kind of feeling inside me now, though. I don’t like it. I don’t understand it. But I know it’s getting stronger. 

With his dark powers growing, Flameheart now summoned the damned souls of lost ships to pursue his goals and regain supremacy of the seas. Fleets of spectral vessels are attacking vulnerable islands.

Pendragon was tricked into releasing {mention_character_nickname_2} from his own skull, unleashing this infamous pirate upon the Sea of Thieves. Flameheart declared the pirates who now dwelled in the Sea of Thieves as unworthy to sail its waters while proclaiming himself to be the rightful ruler.

These seemingly harmless gems have a much darker side... The Sea Queen used them to imprison those from the world above. She bound their souls inside Mermaid Statues and the power of the gems transformed them into something else. She called these new creatures Ocean Crawlers and they were her army, a way to take the fight to the land dwellers. As well as corrupting and changing the poor souls inside, this process corrupted the gems too. These corrupted gems became known as Siren Gems.

As I hoped, the pirate I overheard stashed a map to the Shroudbreaker here. I’m sure she won’t mind me borrowing it! All those new places beyond the Shroud! I can’t wait to make my mark on them, so everyone knows I got there first. It’s so stormy though… I stashed some vittles in the wreck at Old Salts Atoll, so I’ll hole up there for tonight. Then tomorrow, I’m off to claim my prize. I just need to work out how to open the vault…

Sudds met a young whippersnapper today. Green as leaves, he was. He hadn’t even heard of the North Star! You don’t need no spyglass to find her, Sudds told the lad, she’s the biggest and brightest friend and she likes to stay put. Spot the North Star and you’ll never need a compass again! And the boy smiled, and asked Sudds: “What if it’s raining?” Sudds gave the lad a thick ear. Busy, too busy for foolish questions! Gots to reach ol’ Plunder by nightfall…

So we’re at Cannon Cove and there’s just gold sat there like a big dumb trap for idiots. Guess who runs rights up to it and gets jumped by an enemy crew lying in wait? YUP! I had to fight all four of them myself. Lucky I had Georges sword and mine also. I was angry though so it was an easy fight. He never realised it was him I was mad at. Let’s see if we can make it to Lone Cove without me strangling him. I say it’s 50–50.

I was born to be a weaponsmith rather than a common criminal, but you cannot live a life at sea without hearing the legend of Davy Jones. His bargain is simple: agree to server aboard his mighty vessel, the Flying Dutchman, and avoid taking that final step across life's threshold. Those scoundrels who betray their pact with Jones, or who displease him in some other way, are cast down to his Locker. Pirates for all eternity, indeed. This is a world where the pirate's life hangs not by a fragile thread, but by a mighty golden chain. With our help, Jones will have strength enough to sever it.

Well this is embarrassing. I’m normally a dab hand behind the wheel, and I don’t make a habit of wrecking my ship halfway up the beach. Still, what matters is that I made it here. Another first for Captain Briggsy! I should plant a flag, but all I have is these journals. I’m kind of disappointed that the shores aren’t really made of gold, but at least I won’t go blind once the sun comes up. The Shroud doesn’t seem to cover the island, just… wrap around it, I guess. That means it’s safe to explore, and exploring I shall go!

Sailling into Tortuga was rather like sailing into my own history. Though she's been burned to the ground at least three times, her sweet, proliferous bouquet hasn't changed a bit. I sent my crew ashore with one instruction – eavesdrop, snoop and pry the night away, keeping an ear – two ears, if they've got 'em – open at all times. We sought stories of the lucrative, yet night-unfathomable sort. Also, I was trying not to encounter anyone who might want to shoot me. I so happened upon a cosy little hovel where the talk had turned to treasure. Not just any treasure, but a glittering trinket that could carry entire ships to other realms. I admit I was intrigued and only slightly perturbed to learn who the Treasure presently belongs to...

Ancients are shown surrounding a red flame. They could be praising it, or be in awe of it. The flame is the centrepiece of this painting and seems to be giving off some kind of vibes, most likely warmth.

I had no inkling how Davy Jones returned, though I supposed that with Turner freed, there was a situation vacant. After all, the Dutchman must have a captain... Knowing my crew would be less than keen to steal from Monsieur Fishface, I decided to do the only sensible thing. I didn't tell them. Besides, I'd learned that Jones had turned to schooling within an ocean stronghold, where not even mermaids could spy on him. Clearly, he was going to great lengths to hide himself and his new Treasure from interested eyes. With a bit of luck, I'd be in, out, and away whilst 'ol Squid-beard was none the wiser. Having set my heart on depriving Jones of his most prized possession, all that remained was to examine my compass and plot a course for the Pearl.

A new crew of pirates, led by Captain Dimitri, make it to the Sea of Thieves. Soon after their arrival they find an abandoned ship, The Silver Blade. Presuming it had been raised by Merfolk and left abandoned they take it for themselves.

Looking to strike it rich, Dimitri followed a map given to him that led to an Ancient Vault. They make swift work of it, discovering a Chest that constantly weeps and a pile of bones.

Upon leaving the Vault they are attacked by several Skeleton Ships as they attempt to return to an Outpost. Eventually they shake them but are far from any known island. The Chest continues to weep and seep actual water into their ship without any sign of stopping. 
Before they know it, they are surrounded by what they originally assumed were Merfolk but later discovered were Sirens.

To save the pirate's life, the fight had to be brought to {mention_character_name_2} and the Dark Brethren. Climbing up the Coral Spire, Calypso with the aid of pirates destroyed the Heart of Davy Jones, weakening him considerably. A final confrontation happened between the Flying Dutchman and the Captains of the Damned.

Davy Jones subsequently defeated and his plans put to a stop, the Ferryman locked him away in the hold of the Ferry of the Damned.

The pirate Griffin was famed for his love of whole bananas, skin and all, which really caught on among pirates… Unfortunately, he cronched his last on this very spot.

This pirate lost their way on the beach of Marauder's Arch, and tried to survive on just bananas…

{mention_character_firstname_3} and {mention_character_name_4} — {mention_character_nickname_5}'s Children — were given a map by Old Belanger to a treasure left behind by their father somewhere in the Sea of Thieves. This kickstarted a race between the two siblings to who could find this treasure first.

After a lengthy campaign, both of their crews arrived at the same island. There was a scuffle between them, but they managed to dig up an elaborate chest which contained the other half of the pair of cursed pistols. After a brief encounter with {mention_character_nickname_6}, they agree to work together thereafter.

Having gained {mention_character_firstname_4}'s trust, {mention_character_nickname_3} becomes a fully fledged member of the Bilge Rats, taking over Duke's duties. Duke left a 'note' behind explaining that he has gone to find the informal leader of the Bilge Rats, {mention_character_firstname_2}.

Sea of Thieves Companion

The Captain of the Golden Hare, a ship that took an unexpected journey into the Sea of the Damned.

Even before the sudden excursion, the Captain was under the influence of a skelefying curse, as he was drawn to a particular gem in their hoard of treasure.

He became leader of the town in the Sea of the Damned that became known as Sailor's Grave. Other ships and crews would wind up there and could pass on as the Ferry of the Damned would occasionally dock there. He put a stop to this however when he took out the Lighthouse and its Keeper.

His crew turned against him and locked him in a cage whilst they squabbled about what to do with all the treasure.

After helping him in Sailor's Grave and freeing him, he is next seen above the entrance to the Tavern of the Damned, saying he has been on many adventures since he was last encountered.

Is there possibly more to him than we realise...?

An infamous pirate who hid her face with an elaborate mask. Regarded by many as a wildcard as she would just leave her crew on a whim or steal other unsuspecting pirate's ships.

Her actual name isn't 'Briggsy', rather this is a nickname she acquired for herself due to her ability to break out of brigs with ease.

She made many adventures and tales for herself in her life, but met an unfortunate fate when she became cursed and turned into a Skeleton Lord.

Notable Friends and Acquaintances: Sudds, Salty, the Trapmaker, Wild Rose and George

Captain of the Morningstar.
An upstanding pirate who keeps everything in rigorous check. He is one of the earliest pirates to venture into the Sea of Thieves as evidenced by his attendance of the Golden Sands Parlay.

He was swayed by Ramsey's proposal of an alliance and some order in the Sea of Thieves, and presumably joined with him shortly after the Golden Sands Parlay.

Later in life he had a run-in with Lord Graymarrow whilst the two ships searched for a way to the Shores of Gold. This led to Eli Slate and two other members of the Morningstar to being bound to chests by Lord Graymarrow. The fourth member of the crew, Jill, managed to escape.

After being freed from the chests and allowed to pass on to the Ferry of the Damned, Eli Slate wound up spending his time in the Tavern of the Damned until he was recruited to help with the efforts against Davy Jones.

Whenever I am lost in the cold and the dark, he comes to me. How many merfolk truly swim below our feet as we sail our Sea of Thieves? I am so used to their familiar song, I scarcely stop to wonder. Like my fellow pirates, I have been rescued from the icy waters and spirited back to my ship by the kind touch of many merfolk, men and women alike. It was rude of me not to pay them more heed, perhaps, but I was usually distracted by the heat of battle or concerned for the safety of my ship. That is, until the day I noticed there was only one mer searching for me. Each and every time, the same. No matter where I sailed, he was there.

Wanda, blinded by rage at the Outposts' decision to deny allowing her to sell Cursed Cannonballs and coupled with her slow transformation into a skeleton, discarded her name and declared war on the Outposts. 
Referring to herself as Captain Warsmith, she led a skeleton assault on all the Outposts, raising skeleton ships from the seabed to form her fleet.
After a three-week-long battle she was defeated, her last appearance being her going down with her ship in the Shores of Plenty region.

Graymarrow seeks the Shores of Gold, clashing with the crew of the Morningstar which is captained by Eli Slate. After a long drawn-out chase, Graymarrow manages to catch the crew of the Morningstar and strands their souls using a curse in order to maroon the crew on Old Faithful Isle, making them unable to pass on to the Ferry of the Damned.
One member of the Morningstar crew did, however, manage to escape.

After being unfortunately eaten by a shark, the previous shopkeep of the North Star Seapost – Yura – hangs up her sailing boots and opts to stay on dry land. In her place an old astrologer by the name of Sudds makes the Seapost his home, laying out star charts and all sorts of star-gazing equipment.

Ol' Warty Wilkins has been at sea for longer'n I've been alive, and even he swears he's never seen anythin' like the storm we sailed through tonight. The wind must've whipped it up out of nowhere! Strange green flashes o' lightning, an' great rolls o' thunder that sounded almost like words. We're past the squall now, though I'll not be content 'til we've cleared this wretched fog so we can sight land at last, an' get some badly-needed provisions. Funny thing, though. I've not felt hungry fer days, not since the last o' me hair fell out. Guess there's no point foolin' myself any longer. We've all heard tell of pirate curses! Still, so what if that jewel has started t' change me? If I'm to be turned into a skeleton, then I'll be the richest skeleton that ever sailed the seven seas! HAH!

Uncertain about his place in the world, Duke leaves the Lagoon of Whispers in search of answers. In his adventures he visits Mermaid's Hideaway, Kraken's Fall, Wanderer's Refuge and finally Old Salts Atoll.
Around this same time Stone Tablets began being uncovered in various parts of the Sea of Thieves.

Take part in the sinking of another crew's ship.

An Alliance between several ships to seek out new lands beyond the Shroud is formed. The flagship is The Shroudbreaker, captained by {mention_character_name_4}, and outfitted with a magically imbued figurehead that can part the Shroud. The second ship, the Wailing Barnacle, is captained by {mention_character_nickname_3}. They are accompanied by 'Fetcher' Farley, Ruby Carter, Old Coop, 'Flintlock' Bert and Hepzibah Jones in her alliance.

A two-ship Alliance is formed between the captains of The Shroudbreaker and the Wailing Barnacle, Grace Morrow and Stitcher Jim respectively.

Sunken Journal from Duke, a Mystery of the Shrine of Flooded Embrace.

They were known as Sirens and they had a king and queen. The king was murdered by the Ancients and the queen's rage was a thing to behold. She cursed the Ancients and they became ill. I haven't been able to discover exactly what happened, but it sounds unpleasant. But even this didn't satisfy the Sea Queen. She wanted to find a way to punish those who had wronged her, for all eternity. Her desire for revenge led her to explore the forbidden powers of her people, searching for perfect punishment.

Once Deadsniper discovered that they could fire themselves out of a cannon, they couldn't stop! After firing themselves from a cannon more times than anyone else, they finally landed here… a little crispy.

The Sea Queen's grief was all-consuming. But she did not weep and tear her hair, she turned her grief into brutal revenge. She, and her kind, swore that no land-dweller would safely cross the seas ever again. Any boat, craft, anything that entered the waters was dragged below. Their bodies sent to be transformed inside the Mermaid Statues and their treasures added to these very halls by the Ocean Crawlers. This place is littered with figureheads, capstans and all sorts of trophies taken from sunken ships. Though I have searched everywhere, I have failed to find the fabled magical item I hoped would return you to me, but I have not lost hope. I might not have an item, but I do have a plan.

Despite all her powerful magic and minions, the Sea Queen has been unable to free her King from the Chest of Everlasting Sorrow. The combined power of the Ancients and the merfolk who locked him away has proven too much for her. Driven mad by the constant cries of her love, she has locked the chest away. I finally know the fate of the Silver Blade and my hopes for the crew have been dashed. The Queen has turned it into a shrine for The Chest of Everlasting Sorrow, deep within her Sunken Kingdom. She will never forgive humans for what they did to her. All who sail the Sea of Thieves will feel her wrath.

After the defeat of {mention_character_nickname_2}, the Gold Hoarders representatives started hoarding all their gold in Vaults made by the Ancients. With Flameheart's influence growing, the Hoarders sent out pirates to track down the Vault Keys and bring them back.

The Gold Hoarders started using Ancient Vaults to store their wealth, worried about Flameheart and ransackers they seek to get their Vault Keys back.

Umbra is a well-written and keen chronicler of legends who has been brought back to the Sea of Thieves. She has set up camp on Lagoon of Whispers with the intention of documenting the tales and stories of the weird and wonderful people who live here.

Whilst some Reaper Chests contained rare items that Duke had already started selling, others were full of old rags and bones. Duke put these all in crates and hid them on Shipwreck Bay.

Stitcher Jim returned and offered a solution to what can be done with these Rag and Bone Crates so that he could prove he had turned over a new leaf. This led Duke to organising the Rag and Bone Crate Bilge Rat Adventure, which saw crews digging up the Crates on Shipwreck Bay and ferrying them to various Seaposts.

It’s still night, but I just woke up sweating. My first really bad dream in years. Maybe if I write it out, I can sleep. I was back in the tavern at Golden Sands, on the night Ramsey called parley. Trying to open on of those sealed chests. I couldn’t pick the lock. Couldn’t force it. Then suddenly, there’s the key in my hand. I smirk and throw open the lid… Nothing there. Seriously. Nothing, like looking into a chasm. A bottomless pit in a box. And suddenly, I feel hands on my back, shoving me! I think it’s one of Ramsey’s men, and now I’m inside the chest, falling — screaming out as the lid snaps shut overhead… Then I woke up. Ugh.

After the chaining of Old Mother — the mighty Kraken that the Sirens had begun to treat with a devotion that bordered on worship — and bounding the {mention_character_nickname_2}'s soul into a chest, the Ancients found themselves embroiled in the war of the Merfolk against the Sirens.

To expand her army on land, the {mention_character_nickname_3} bounded the souls of the Ancients she caught into Mermaid Statues. With the power of the Mermaid Gems, she turned them into what she called Ocean Crawlers and corrupting the gems — now know as Siren Gems. Nowhere was safe, on land or sea.

A Warrior vowing to end the war once and for all, took up her blade and strode fearlessly into the sea, forcing the Sirens to retreat into the darkness. The Ancients used Mermaid Gems to hold an immense power that forced the Sirens to slumber.

Once the Warrior returned home, she brought back with her the curse of a sunken sorrow. The Ancients entombed her remains into the vault of the Shrine of Ancient Tears and sealed it for the danger it contains.

The Ancients found themselves embroiled in the war of the Merfolk against the Sirens.

Tricky, tricky! Three there were, one which took some clever thinking to uncover. Water can flow and water can crash. But find them I did and then they were revealed to me. My friends! Even here beneath the waves they whisper to me and tell me their precious secrets. The truth, about the Great Warrior and the Sea Queen. Not just stories, but real, Ancient man and merfolk woman. With a love that could destroy both their worlds.

We’ve all seen what happens when huge armadas try to make it through the Devil’s Shroud, and it’s not pretty. Screaming sailors and splintered ships. I learned long ago that smaller crews have a better chance of making it along the twisting routes that provide safe passage to the Sea of Thieves. A lone traveller is best served by a sloop. They’re small and nimble, though their size comes at the expense of firepower. Larger crews must learn to sail a brigantine, or even the mighty galleon — a commanding sight with her eight cannons and three great sails. Then, of course, we have the humble rowboat. These tiny craft can be carried by the other larger ships and are perfect for retaining the element of surprise…

Scrutinising this strange collection of faces – some unfamiliar, some unexpected – I have finally realised just what has drawn us here.
The Fallen Ruler – the gold on his skull now mottled and tarnished, whose greed could never be sated by the paltry tributes of his disciples.
Davy Jones himself – once a pirate, whose greatest love was the sea, but that sea betrayed him in the end. Took all it could, gave nothing back.
The Outcast – blamed by his kin for causing chaos, now lured here by the Sirens' song. He sees, at last, that his dream is over. It is time to wake up.
We are all here because we have lived the lie of the pirate's life, in our own ways, and it brought us nothing but anguish. Now it is time for the lie to end.

The rumours of the vast wealth stored away in our treasury must have reached the ears of the pirates. What else could be drawing them here in such numbers?! I pray that the Captain and his men are doing all in their power to keep it, and us, safe. Sadly, our illustrious Mayor isn't giving the same care to the valuables the townsfolk have placed under his protection! Strolling around town with the key to it around his neck! Any passing knave could take it and force the Mayor to reveal the location of our precious belongings. I despair!

As I've travelled from island to island, I've seen images of a warrior holding a spear. He's mostly shown vanquishing animals and sometimes with a bird. I've often wondered if he was a real person, or a folktale designed to instil virtues into those who saw or heard it. It was the merfolk who revealed the truth to me: he was an Ancient. An ancient who fell in love with the Sea Queen, no less! Not only that, but she returned his love.

As the Sirens begin to awaken Chief Trader Mollie gets in contact with Larinna to try and solve the issue of Merchant ships and their crews disappearing. They send pirates to follow Trade Routes to recover lost Manifests on these Merchant Ships.

After having sailed with numerous crews under the banner of the Pirate Lord's Alliance, protecting the Sea of Thieves from dangers and discovering lost treasures, {mention_character_nickname_2} found, however, that life is not the same without his original crew.

His final act was visiting {mention_character_nickname_3}, who has now lost most of his mind due to his dual Skeleton and Greed for Gold Curses. Ramsey speaks to him at length about his adventures since the betrayal, eventually ending with his declaration of retirement.

Ramsey died in mysterious circumstances but he once revealed after mentioning his crew that it all came to an end when some of his hearties turned into those foul Skeletons. Rumours connect the three daggers in his back to this fate. The Pirate Lord attained eternal life by drinking from the Tankard of Everlasting Life and is able to stay in Sea of Thieves as a ghost thanks to his Reaper's Mark necklace that {mention_character_firstname_4} gifted to him.

Ramsey retired after having sailed the seas for many years protecting the Sea of Thieves from dangers and discovering lost treasures.

In all the years I've kept a journal, I've never seen a Skeleton Ship be that persistent! They rose from the deep almost as soon as we left the vault behind. I've heard rumours of skellies going after treasures before. Something tells me they were hunting for that vault too, and we only just beat them to it. Well tough luck, bone-brains keepers out here on the seas. We lured them past one of their own Forts and left a few Gunpowder Barrels bobbing... That gave us a chance to get away, but since then we've spotted two more Skeleton Ships, both of which made a beeline for us! Can't be a coincidence. Whatever we've got on board, the skellies clearly think it's valuable. Time to head out into open waters and work out what to do next...

Umbra believes the five names scrathced here were among the first pirates to come to the Sea of Thieves - after the Pirate Lord's crew, of course.

The Devil's Shroud, the name given to the impenetrable wall of fog that surrounds the Sea of Thieves, has existed since Ancient times. The Ancients used artefacts like beacons to protect their homes and places of worship from the Shroud's effects or created relics for safe passage into the fog.

As the Devil's Shroud is formed, cutting off access from the outside world, the Sea of Thieves is now trapped within this bank of impenetrable fog.

The Devil's Shroud is a magical barrier that separates the Sea of Thieves from the rest of the world.

A new building appears on all Outposts, with The Castaway taking up residence in them.

The Castaway implores pirates to seek out someone lost in the Sea of the Damned, beginning a series of events that changes the course of the Sea of Thieves forever.

One of the first pirates to make a name for herself on the Seas, Umbra heard that Jackie took this barrel everywhere. That was perhaps a mistake, but nobody could convince her to leave behind her 'boombox'.

Block an attack, and then hit your opponent within five seconds.

It was a risk, but I was right to take it. Our repairs had left us low on supplies, and I could not rule out the possibility of another attack. I do not know how the pirates divined our heading. Perhaps it was mere chance, and yet, when I set foot on land, her Captain was lying in wait. Had I sent my crew, they would likely be lying in pieces, but my bones were forged in fire. In moments, it was he who lay broken at my feet. As before, our Commander bound the fool’s spirit so that he could not return from the Sea of the Damned. He will plague us no longer! The final leg of our journey sees us pass Flintlock Peninsula. Until then, I have much to consider. Once our mission is complete, what will become of us?

They say you should be careful what you wish for. The greatest voyage of my life, and this is how it ends… Boneheads don’t attack me now. They just stand and stare, like they’re expecting… What? Orders? From me? I can feel a darkness in my heart. I want to lash out, like I did to that Naughty Man at Galleon’s Grave. I’m so, SO glad that girl can’t see me like this. I don’t want her to hear this story. My last story… I… I don’t want her to know I’m a monster…

‘The Sea of Thieves’. That’s what they’re calling it nowadays. The genie is out of the bottle, and more pirates are finding their way there every day. Some are looking to hide — from their enemies, from their pasts, from the Grand Maritime Union — while others have heard the call to adventure. It’s only a matter of time before they reach this island, too. Maybe they’ll be dreaming about the Sea of Thieves has to offer, just as I was. If that’s the shape of things to come, I’d be a fool to complain. Instead, I’ll stow a few supplies around the place for those who need them. Things work differently beyond the Shroud. Better, for the most part, but newcomers will have to think on their feet if they’re to survive.

The Well of Fates comes to rest in the hold of the Ferry of the Damned. This Well of Fates allows pirates to dip their lanterns in and obtain a Flame of Fate which represents how they died.
The Bilge Rats decided to take this as an opportunity to honour the Ferryman and constructed Beacons around the Sea of Thieves which pirates could light with the flames from the Well of Fates.

Wretched pirates! They dared to interrupt our journey and try to scavenge from us! Now we must moor at Scorched Pass and make repairs. Two galleons approached at once, as allies. Clearly they meant to surround us, though the heat of our flames kept them at bay. To my surprise, our Commander stepped forward, moving with a swiftness I did not expect and burning white-hot with righteous fury. So magnificent was he, one ship turned and fled! The other was ripped apart by our cannon fire even as our crew assailed theirs. To punish their insolence, our Commander himself boarded their vessel, using his great power to curse their Captain before hurling her into the hateful sea. 

Not all my journeys to this island are happy ones. Today I stumbled onto this poor soul, map still in their hands. To think, they were so close… No matter how swiftly we sail or how sharp our aim, it is only a matter of time before the Reaper’s hand clamps down upon our shoulder. I am fortunate to have had a friend with wisdom enough to know this. Thanks to her, I live on beyond my years… at least in spirit. For younger pirates, another hope presents itself. When they perish, their souls are saved from drifting alone through the Sea of the Damned. If you should die on the Sea of Thieves and find yourself in the Ferryman’s company, know this: he deserves your respect, for he has made the greatest sacrifice of all… 

Salty managed to locate a cannon once belonging to the Burning Blade. He made a deal with Wanda the Weaponsmith of Golden Sands Outpost, and the two dredge it up from the seafloor.
Wanda shortly afterwards became obsessed with reverse-engineering enchanted cannonballs from the magical properties of the cannon, wanting to create a new kind of weapon.
Eventually Wanda's experiments bore fruit as she developed a way to create Cursed Cannonballs. This experimenting however caused several side effects, Salty was used as a test subject and subsequently turned into a Skeletal Parrot, whilst Wanda herself began to lose her flesh.

Kareen, my love, I hope you never read this. Today I made the worst mistake of my life. I was such an idiot. I recognised her livery on the horizon and thought I’d pick a fight with the famous Briggsy. It wasn’t her! Well it was, but cursed! Her flesh mostly rotted away, and so fierce. Like a wild animal. She didn’t kill me, only threw me in a cage. She said starving my way onto the ferry would teach me a lesson. I’m so hungry, and this is so cruel! I don’t know what Briggsy is now, Kareen. I just know she isn’t human any more.

The fog had already rolled in by the time I started hunting. You know how it muffles sound and makes everything strange? Well of course you know, Dad… You know everything. Anyway, my mind started playing tricks on me pretty much straight away. I got turned around, and started climbing, trying to get out the fog… Groping, blindly, hoping I didn’t walk straight off a ledge. That’s when my hand touch it. Polished bone, cold as ice and moist from the fog. I thought I’d be seized by skellies for sure! Lucky for me, the sun broke through just then. It was just a boring old kraken skull, not anything supernatural! Whew. 

I am very much creeped out right now, not that I’d ever admit it to anyone. I finally made it on top of the throne and inside. I hadn’t gone far before I spotted a chest. One of the sealed ones people sometimes sell to the Gold Hoarders, but… open. It looked just like the one from my dream. Like, exactly the same. It sounds stupid but I didn’t dare go near it in case I fell in. As if I needed more clues, I spotted the Gold Hoarder emblem on a door, too. So. They’ve been here before. But why?

I have a ship, she has a name. I have a crew, we have our course! The Sea of Thieves is a legendary pirate paradise, home to some of the most feared marauders to ever sails the seas – or so the stories go. Naturally, only Threepwood would be arrogant enough to presume he has a place there, let alone treat it as a romantic getaway spot for his honeymoon. If he'd been sailing alone I'm sure he'd be marooned by now, but while Elaine has seriously bad taste in husbands, she's a capable pirate. I have to assume that Threepwood somehow made it to the Sea of Thieves. And that means I must do the same.

A figure cloaked in mystery, The Servant of the Flame acts as the hand-in point for all Reaper's Bones business as well as being their only known representative. Much of the Reaper's Bones designs also seem to be based on their image, for example the Reaper's Bones figurehead and the prominent statue on the island.
It is highly speculated that underneath that golden mask is a skeleton.

Through the ill deeds of Captain Warsmith and her subsequent downfall, the Cursed Cannonballs she sought to control have now been unleashed upon the Sea of Thieves. In recognition of this major event, Duke issued the next Bilge Rat Adventure by rewarding pirates who seek out and used these cannonballs against skeletons and other player ships. Duke also challenged pirates to use another mysterious accursed power, The Flag of the Reaper’s Mark, which was harnessed from Wanda’s Lab. A flag that when equipped would mark your ship on all ship maps.

The Cursed Cannonballs Captain Warsmith sought to control have now been unleashed upon the Sea of Thieves, with the Bilge Rats challenging pirates to use them.

In the world outside the Sea of Thieves, a sea-based trading company called the Grand Maritime Union built its influence to become the most powerful organisation in the world à la East India Trading Company, destroying businesses and livelihoods in their conquest for complete control of trade routes. Many pirates and civilians alike did not like the grip over the seas that they have.

After spending a month in the places surrounded by the Devil's Shroud, {mention_character_firstname_5} and crew return home to tell their stories and regale unbelieving pirates with tales from their adventures.

{mention_character_nickname_8} calls Ramsey a liar to avoid telling how he had made the crossing and how others might do the same. In disagreement with Ramsey to keep this knowledge to himself, {mention_character_firstname_10} secretly gives Jim a copy of the map to cross the Shroud in exchange of his loyalty. Jim quickly takes this opportunity to get some coins by selling the map to other pirates.

This then marks the beginning when pirate crews venture through the shroud and into the uncharted waters of what they call the Sea of Thieves.

Rathbone, in disagreement with Ramsey, gives Stitcher Jim a copy of the map to cross the Shroud in exchange of his loyalty.

When I was young, I learned not to believe in fate and fortune. The roll of the dice is decided not by unseen forces, but by the bumps and knots of the tabletop. But since the day we four made it to the Sea of Thieves and found this ship, the Silver Blade, just waiting for us to claim her... I've not been so sure. She must have been recently salvaged by the merfolk, I suppose, like so many other lost ships. Not that we knew that when we chose to board her. The ship was completely deserted, though we learned a little of her first crew from notes left among their belongings – who knew Flameheart ever had a son? We took the vessel for ourselves, of course, on that first lucky day. And today, if the map in my hands is worth the gold I paid, will be our luckiest day yet...

Well. This escalated quickly. Ramsey remembered the drunken ramblings of some old salt who’d sailed too close to the Devil’s Shroud. The old man claimed he’d glimpsed a glittering island… One where the very ground was made of gems and precious metals. It sounds impossible, but as Ramsey likes to say, that’s just another way of describing something we haven’t seen yet. At first light, we’ll be setting out to find that Shroudbreaker. If these Shores of Gold are real, it’s the only way we’ll reach them. I should get to my bunk and try for sleep. From now on, Ramsey’s voyage journal can tell our story…

Once Jack rescued and arrived at the Tavern of the Damned, a rousing speech from {mention_character_nickname_6} convinced Jack to return to the land of the living and fix the problem he started.

To rescue Captain Jack Sparrow from the Sea of the Damned pirates had to use his Compass and travel through his memories.

Whilst following clues in search of the legendary Shroudbreaker artefact to reach a mythical island made of gold, the flagship of {mention_character_nickname_2}, the Magpie's Wing, is pursued by the Burning Blade. Although they managed to offload some cargo, the Magpie's Wing is sunk near the uncharted island at N-13.

Stitcher Jim informed pirates about a set of mysterious Tomes named the Ashen Tomes which contained secrets on the Ashen Lords. Knowing that skeletons had recently began moving these artefacts around in Ashen Chests, he sold maps and gave information on the whereabouts of the Ashen Chests and the Ashen Keys needed to open them.

We have stopped to rest on our way to the Lagoon of Whispers, but the only whisper I can hear is echoes of the question. Asked so plainly, the shock of it has completely dulled my senses, and I’m still no closer to the answer. It’s like that game where children pull petals off flowers one at a time. She loves me, she loves me not. Although it’s more like… I love her, I love her not, I love her… I love her… I… Oh dear.

Bah! Looks like I’m not the first to make it here after all. This stuff doesn’t look ancient, just old, and I’m sure it was made by pirates. I guess the island slips out of the Devil’s Shroud from time to time, and that’s when others came? Maybe even Ramsey got here in the end. Well, no point in sulking. I’m here now, and I bet I can find something they missed. A memento, to help remember this place. And when I tell this story, maybe I’ll conveniently forget to mention this little discovery. We’ll make it our secret, okay? 

Briggsy’s memories spoke of a young woman named Wild Rose, and true love shining across the waves… Is her fate somehow entwined with that of the Shroudbreaker?

Madame Olive works for the Order of Souls at Sanctuary Outpost. As one of Rose’s oldest friends, she may have some clue how to find her.

Returning the favour of the rescue of the Merfolk, Ramsey and crew are brought to the shackled remains of Old Mother. They are believed to be somewhere in The Wilds and are large enough for a galleon to sail through with plenty of space.

Reduced to a mass of bones, the chains no longer had reason to be there, so Ramsey commanded his crew to remove the locks and chains and bring them to their ship.

Ramsey set his crew to re-working the enchanted chains into locks and keys for treasure chests, so that no one without the proper keys can open the chests. During this time they also learn more about the magic of the Sea of Thieves, particularly how to enchant objects.

Just when I thought I was doomed to be bored out o' me skull by this endless fog, I heard Ol' Warty cry 'land ho', though he didn't sound happy about it. There was land looming up ahead, sure enough, though we'd no time to change course before we were onto the rocks, good an' scuppered. After explorin' the grotto, we emerged t' see yet more ruined ships, an' a great lighthouse, too! It's the oddest thing, me crew swears it weren't there before. Well, we got her beacon burnin' bright an' I appointed one o' me crew to be the Lighthouse Keeper. So long as that light shines, we're sure to be rescued. Until then, I've set the crew t' makin' us some shelters out o' these scuttled ships, and maybe even a tavern. Funny how this already feels like home...

Strange, Yet Familiar, by the Cursed Captain.

A lanky man of dubious intent, affiliated with many infamous figures in the history of the Sea of Thieves. Always seems to find himself in trouble.

He was given the location to a stash of maps to the Sea of Thieves by Rathbone and this seemed to have started an uneasy alliance between the two men. It is presumed that it was his doing that saw Ramsey's camp at Thieves Haven ransacked, at the behest of Rathbone.

He turned up to the parlay of Golden Sands Outpost but remained mostly in the shadows. He is credited with having a hand in forming the Gold Hoarders Trading Company, and working closely with their leader.

His activity is unknown for quite some time, until he joined forces with Captain Grace Morrow and her crew to form the Forsaken Shores Alliance.
Together they travelled to areas past the Shroud thanks to the enchanted figurehead of Morrow's ship, The Shroudbreaker. Eventually they came to what would become known as the Devil's Roar and it is here that Jim's treachery reared its ugly face again. 
Jim managed to find a mysterious chest, which he dubbed the 'Box of Wondrous Secrets', and learnt of something dark when he peeked inside, causing him to pick off the members of the Forsaken Shores Alliance. He was successful in causing an untimely end for them all, save for Grace Morrow herself, who survived the poisoning attempt.

When the Shroud parted and the Devil's Roar was made accessible to all, Jim was spotted on Liar's Backbone asking any passing pirates to look for the Box of Wondrous Secrets. After awhile, he vanished once more.

His re-appearance was with the Masked Stranger in tow, whom he declared unending love for. It turns out that she rescued him (possibly by accident) from the Devil's Roar. He helped the Masked Stranger to setup several things, including the Fort of the Damned, freeing Sir Arthur Pendragon from his painting, and ultimately the Reaper's Hideout.

His last seen appearance was in the Heart of Fire, where he had trapped the souls of Pendragon's crew into a Chest of Rage as part of a ritual to bring back the Ashen Lords. He stuck his arm in the opened Chest of Rage and was subsequently burned, Flameheart claiming he was an unwitting sacrifice. 

Some reports claim the ritual was not successful and Jim remains in hiding.

It exists! Proof lies in some of the most obscure places (Ramsey won’t let me write down where) but the relic’s real enough. As near as I can tell, they used artefact like a beacon to protect their homes and places of worship from the Shroud’s effects. At other times, it was taken to a vault to recover its powers. When I told Ramsey, he replied “Ah, so it’s a shroud breaker, then!” All of this seems to have inspired him. We’re making for Plunder Outpost on Ramsey’s orders, to see a man about a map…

Complete 'The Art of the Trickster' Tall Tale.

Three flagons of brandy and a fine meal claimed the last of my coin. Fortunately, I already have a new bounty in my sights. The simpering woman in her tent at first refused to hand the wretched paper over. “Too dangerous”, she said. What rot! I might well have turned my blade upon her but for my cardinal rule: I never kill for free. The paper is mine now, regardless. And who is this Briggsy? A capering child, it seems; a pirate more concerned with showing off than amassing any great fortune. She is known to make camp at Discovery Ridge. Doubtless I shall catch her there at play. We’ll see how long her humour lasts. 

Astronomy Team

All sailors rely on the stars to guide them safely, and there is plenty to be gleamed by the waxing and waning of the moon. Through our studies we have been able to identify the existence of eclipses, and our current project with astronomy is to build a more robust tracking system to accurately pinpoint the moments these eclipses happen.

The Ancients were greatly appreciated by the mer people. The latter used to uncover precious stones and gems in the very deepest parts of the ocean to bring them back to the meeting places as a gift.

The Mer communicate with sounds that are unintelligible to humans, this language is referred to as their 'Song'. With the purest pearls, the Ancients crafted magical earrings that allowed them to hear the merfolk song and be understood in kind.

Old Mother — the oldest and largest Kraken known to have existed — had a relationship with the Sea Queen — a monarch of the Merfolk — but became angered when the Queen 'broke her promise'. Possibly due to this breaking of a promise, Old Mother used to feast on the Mer. The mighty Kraken woke every century or so to feed and before settling back down to sleep again.

The oldest member of the Magpie's Wing, the first ship to successfully cross through the Shroud.
Skilled in a number of ways, Shan was originally sought by Ramsey to be quartermaster of the crew but Shan's abilities lay far beyond just stock-taking. He was adept at tinkering and making on-the-fly adjustments to the ship, he was noted for his playing of the concertina, and he embraced the magical qualities of the Sea of Thieves. 
It is a little known fact that he pioneered the creation of cannons that could fire humans.

His current whereabouts are unknown, although given his age when they first discovered the Sea of Thieves it is widely thought that they have sadly passed away.

Great Warrior took his arrows and went to make war with Kraken, but he had lost a feather along the way. He thought of Singing Snake and the venom it used to bite, and he tipped each of his arrows with the very same. The arrows stung the Old Mother and made her sleepy, so that she sank down to the sea bed. Warrior gave out a great cry. The ancients came, then, with their great chains. Together they bound Kraken rightly to the star above, far out of reach. The Sea Queen was grateful, for her people were saved, and she promised they would always help those lost at sea.

I knew of the merfolk, what pirate doesn't? But I knew nothing of their history or their culture. The earring gave me a glimpse into that world, and I wanted to see more. So I started to explore. I discovered Shrines and an entire underwater kingdom filled with a type of merfolk I had never seen before, who all seemed to be sleeping. Something about their kingdom told me I was glad they were asleep and as I went deeper, I started to discover the story of how they came to be. Although this new race of merfolk were created by the strength of one couple's love, this tale did not have a happy ending.

Upon freeing the Blackwyche's crew from a terrible curse he is gifted the ship and told of the Sea of Thieves. He is also told by the now ex-Captain of the Blackwyche, Richard Cavendish, to seek out his daughter – Ana Cavendish — who is still in the Sea of Thieves.

This Timeline is a collaborative effort from the scholars of the History Department of the Ancient Isles University. The intended goal is to provide a clear and concise location for people to learn about the history of the Sea of Thieves.
Due to the nature of pirates, not all tales can be trusted! To help calm the waters, {mention_character_firstname_2} has enlisted pirates to hunt down the new threats from the darkest depths of the ocean.

Shortly thereafter, a mysterious melody is heard throughout the Sea of Thieves. Trading Company representatives are convinced that this phenomenon is a result to the recovery of Mermaid and Siren Gems, and request pirates work to hand in more.

Lesleyann was a true pirate legend, who delivered vital gifts to a friend in dire need. Knowing that her friend was suffering with poor health, she did all in her power to keep her in touch with the rest of the Sea of Thieves.

Blast it all! The key to my ship’s hold is missing. It must have slipped from my pocket at some point in my time here. Between this and that business with Rathbone, I’m developing a bad habit of losing the keys to my belongings. Perhaps it made its bid for freedom from my jacket when I climbed up for a drink of fresh spring water. Ah well. It’s another lost treasure now.

For the first time since our mission began, our Commander issued new orders. I did not dare to question them. Tri-Rock Isle, Cinder Islet, Cursewater Shores. At his instruction,we sailed to each of them in turn, and I went ashore. There, I buried three great treasures from our hold — relics that even our Commander regarded with something approaching fear. I can only hope I have hidden his belongings well enough that they shall remain undisturbed. Even as he is now, I fear his wrath. Rumours spread of a ritual intended to rebuild Captain Flameheart’s forces at his stronghold The Heart of Fire. 
Pirates were recruited by Tallulah, the Tavernkeep at the Charred Parrot on Morrow's Peak Outpost, to join the fight to stop Flameheart. For many, what occurred was a desperate plea from Pendragon to save the souls of his crew and put a stop to a ritual that would summon the Ashen Lords.
Those who managed to find their way through the Heart of Fire bore witness to Stitcher Jim attempting the ritual but burning his arm in the process.

It has been weeks since I felt like writing anything. Like feeling anything. Weeks since I have seen him. And then today... a shadow, under the ship. There was singing, too, but it was... different. A sad song. The others heard it, I could tell. The Captain has had her pistol loaded ever since. Sirens are nothing but an old pirate legend, but legends have a way of coming true out here, don't they? The Merchants talk of so many missing crews... If pirates can become merfolk, then what might merfolk become? The sad song is back. Louder. All around us now. He is here, and he is not alone.

There was a time when the ancient people lived in this place now called the Sea of Thieves and mastered all kinds of knowledge.

The ancients worshipped things which have ruled there far longer than them. They learned to sail the sea undisturbed by making sacrifices and thanks to this knowledge they helped the merfolk several times. The ancients were greatly appreciated by the mer people. The latter used to uncover precious stones and gems in the very deepest parts of the ocean to bring them back to the meeting places as a gift. Some say that the ancients used these gems to master magic and protect the Sea of Thieves.

Now that the ancients are gone, the only things left of their precious knowledge are paintings and ruins, mere remains of their existence. There are whispers and legends from across the waves of sightings of something more dangerous to come. Will our cannonballs be enough to protect the Sea of Thieves?

The fogs on the Sea of Thieves are heavy, but were especially bad during a certain year. They seemed to stir up the Krakens and sharks. Perhaps those creatures just saw a chance to prey on lost ships, but the tables soon turned as pirates realised something… Many Krakens and Megalodons eat up valuable loot from the ships they sink. Suddenly, hunting them for goodies became a tempting prospect!

Recently, I’ve been testing different kinds of blades to see which are the most useful for ‘deterring’ intruders. I’ve had some success with sword traps, as they look fearsome and have an excellent range. They’re expensive to make, of course. Saw traps use shorter, duller metal blades, and are definitely useful in confined spaces. Still, they lack a certain style… Or should I go back to the tried-and-tested “wall o’ stakes”? Though primitive, you can’t argue with the classics. Decisions, decisions…

My picking brings many a lost soul to my porch, but none so strange or lost as her. She did wit' me, long into the night, and listen to me play. As the nights went by, the cher started to tell me more about herself. She talked of a man who played beau music, music that could clasp at your very soul. He done wronged her, and now the sound of organ music made her feel like her heart was being ripped from her chest.

One unfortunate evening, a pirate by the name of Merrick accidentally stumbles upon an enchanted shanty that brings forth the Hungering One from a deepsea fissure. The Hungering One attacks his ship, the Killer Whale, of which he was the only survivor despite losing both his legs.

THREEPWOOD! A name I shall take great pleasure in etching into a gravestone with my own dagger for what he did to my new ship's pride and joy. I'd quite forgotten that the witless, hopeless, clueless buffoon previously removed the head of the figurehead that gives the Mad Monkey its name! One day I shall take great pleasure in tying the selfish swindler to what remains of the figurehead and parading him around the port, but until then... Making do, I have returned from the shipwright with a new nameplate for our ship. Together, my new crew and I shall sail on the Headless Monkey! That's a name that a certain Guybrush Threepwood, pirate pretender, and his job-ditching bride Governor Elaine would do well to remember...

Amaranta is a woman obsessed with being number one.  She currently stands outside the Glorious Sea Dogs Tavern, acting as their representative. How she joined the Sea Dogs or why is unknown, but she doesn't seem to have a fondness for DeMarco or Lesedi.

On a mission to rescue some lost souls, {mention_character_lastname_3} dove too deep in search of a cave near Keelhaul Fort unfortunately drowning in the process. He appeared on the Ferry of the Damned where {mention_character_nickname_4} takes interest in the Sword of Souls that Pendragon holds and tasks him with finding a Lantern similar to the one he owns.

Pendragon returns to the land of the living and swiftly finds the Lantern. Back aboard the Ferry of the Damned, he dipped the Lantern in the Well of Fates and created a Lantern that could see lost souls on the Sea of Thieves.

Pendragon meets with the Ferryman. The Ferryman senses the potential within Pendragon and instructs him to find a Flame of Fate so he may then see lost souls.

Be promoted to level 75 with the Reaper's Bones.

After staying with pirates for a time, learning about life at sea, {mention_character_firstname_4} uses her knowledge and experience as a trader to set up the Merchant Alliance Trading Company, with the intent of moving goods between islands employing pirates as the couriers. She is keen on focusing on quality when it comes to trade. The Merchant Alliance is run by committee, with each of the representatives on each Outpost having equal input on the direction of the Trading Company, and a vote needed to be passed on important decisions.

After being abandoned her on an island by the Grand Maritime Union, Mollie went on to start the Merchant Alliance Trading Company.

Having amassed the tools he needed in the form of the Ashen Tomes, Ashen Jewels and other ritual ingredients, Flameheart brought back his elite warriors the Ashen Lords to the Sea of Thieves.

Following the leads from scrying Briggy's Skull, pirates re-discover several of the Shroudbreaker Gems.

One is found through Tasha the Tavernkeeper of The Unicorn on Ancient Spire Outpost, by following stories she was told by Captain Briggsy as a child.

The star-gazer Sudds holds the clues to another, as he tells stories passed down from Ancient times based on the star constellations, giving access to a special spyglass only he and Briggsy ever used.

Salty leads pirates down the path of the Trickster to another gem. The Trickster was a pirate who created various traps and mechanisms, and was ordered by Briggsy to use their cunning to protect a Shroudbreaker Gem.

An Ancient is riding upon a small boat and wields a spear, looking as if they are spearfishing as beneath them are four fish. Circled around the Ancient is a blue circle that is almost uninterrupted save for a gap on the lower left where there is the impression of two fish in blue.

Captain Gideon Graymarrow is a figure who has been around since the early days of the Sea of Thieves. A cruel man who never allows his crew to leave the ship.

Over time, he became a Skeleton Lord and sought to learn about the magics of the Sea of Thieves, in effect rivalling the knowledge of the Order of Souls.
His favourite method of dealing with his enemies is to perform a binding curse on them, so as to not allow their souls to pass on to the Ferry of the Damned.

For reasons unknown, his ghost appears when nearing the end of the ritual at the Fort of the Damned.

A ruthless Skeleton Lord with an extensive knowledge of curses

Once a Weaponsmith on Golden Sands Outpost, Wanda sought new ways to create the best and finest weapons leading her to salvage a cursed cannon that belonged to the Burning Blade.
Her obsession with developing new weapons, and the effects from the cannon, led her to becoming afflicted with the Skeleton Curse.
She declared war on the Outposts when they would not allow her to sell Cursed Cannonballs, raising a fleet of Skeleton Ships in her service. After a three week campaign she was defeated.

She re-emerged as the Masked Stranger, a quiet companion to Stitcher Jim, to whom he claims he owes his life. During this time she manipulated pirates in helping her to create the Reaper's Bones Trading Company.

After confessing her love to Flameheart and receiving only derision from him, she turned her back to him and the Pirate's Life, joining with a group calling themselves the Dark Brethren.

We can assume this painting depicts one of the merfolk bearing a beacon to guide those lost at sea. The odd details here of the bright blue eyes, shape of the head of the merfolk, and the crescent moon symbol on it's chest suggest this is a not a painting done by pirates. This seems to be one of the more 'fully formed' merfolk that nobody has seen aside from the Cursed Mermaid Statues.

When most people talk about the Ancients that used to live around here, they always act like they were so... high and mighty. Wise, mysterious, all of that. I dunno. Sometimes I think they could be properly nasty, just like everyone else. Especially when it came to protecting their really special treasures... Well, their vault was no match for us, not even with all its tricks and traps. We looted the lot, and believe me, this isn't your usual pile of treasure! There was a huge pile of bones atop the hoard, for one thing. Who knows, maybe Madame Olivia and her Weird Sisters will pay us for them. I'm more interested in that great big chest locked up in my cabin. It's got a face, which weeps constantly, but so long as it's valuable I'll live with wet feet...

Sea of Thieves is filled with mysterious weather phenomena: a dark mass of clouds with turbulent waves, an intense fog or lava rocks falling from the sky. Our research focuses on studying the behaviours of these entities and providing reliable weather forecasts.

As I've explored further into 'The Sunken Kingdom' (it's a great name, isn't it? I'm pretty please with myself, not going to lie) I've discovered more about the Sirens. Take this place, for example. I'm pretty sure it's some sort of tomb. The Sirens seem to have taken death, and honouring the dead, very seriously. The pool in the centre contains offerings to those who have passed, and there seem to have been a fair few of them. The sirens were at war with everyone, the Ancients and the merfolk. The rage of the Queen filled all her kind, and they took every opportunity to inflict pain on others. Creating a kingdom from the ruins of anything they could drag down from the world above.

Nestled away in an alcove on the inner side of Thieves Haven are two paintings of similar designs, in red, and either depicting hooks or tentacles.

When Grace Morrow and Stitcher Jim joined their crews to form The Forsaken Shores Alliance, they travelled to places few pirates had seen. They even reached The Devil's Roar thanks to the Shroudbreaker, but Stitcher Jim was secretly seeking power for his then-master, the Gold Hoarder. He betrayed and killed all of them but Captain Morrow, who survived her poisoning but was trapped in the Roar. A dark tale indeed.

Wild Rose and George opted to stay with Jack Sparrow as part of his crew. Jack used the power of the Greatest Pirate Treasure to open a new portal to a new horizon, which he and the Black Pearl sailed through.

She was following us again all day. I could see her sails on the horizon. Just out of reach of the cannons. COWARD. I knew I wanted this life. Ever since I fell from my parents’ sloop as a nipper and got saved by Captain Briggsy herself! She looked me up and down and said I was going to be the sort of pirate who never let danger scare her away. And thanks to her I never have. But they all say it’s still too dangerous to take on Rooke. I guess to keep George happy I will just keep writing my feelings down instead of wasting all our ammo. Ugh. I wish things were simple again like they were back at Cannon Cove… 

Started keeping a diary again. It doesn’t beat telling my tales in a busy tavern, but it’ll do for now. Besides, it’s time for another adventure. The yearning’s back, deep in my belly. Time to sail again. Lucky me, overhearing the girl with the merfolk earrings. A Shroudbreaker? Sounds like fun! If what she said is true, I should take a scout around Mermaid’s Hideaway. Just in case… 

Today has been one of the best day of my life and one of the funniest too. My sides still hurt! George had been thinking (too much) about how to propose to me. Where to take me and how to stand and what to say. Too bad he forgot to look where he was walking! He turned and said “Rose will you marry aaargh!” He fell into a tree and got stuck upside-down swinging all day! Until we chopped it down anyway. Ha ha ha! Laughing again. But of course I said yes anyway. As if I could refuse my George after all of that!

Shipwrecked and washed ashore on an unknown island, {mention_character_nickname_2} and crew find a riddle map that leads to a cave. They found in the cave network a mysterious golden chalice. 

Countless days and nights were spent wandering deeper into the cave and as they progress the crew slowly ceased to eat and sleep. At they reached the end, they were all transformed into skeletons but only Flameheart Jr kept his memories and became a Skeleton Lord.

Finally, he met {mention_character_nickname_3}, the captain of the ship where his father, {mention_character_nickname_4}, was a crew member. The Captain asked Flameheart to follow him to make him a Pirate For All Eternity.

This ways no easy spot to reach! During the Festival of the Damned, pirates would light these beacons with various coloured flames. How incredible that the Ferryman allowed access to the Flames of Fate, which change to reflect how a pirate dies. I'd like to learn more about them… but I'm not rushing to the Ferry of the Damned. What if I don't come back? A chilling prospect.

The Wicked Wench has been haunting the waters off our coast. Barbossa is one of the most feared pirate captains to sail the seas and his crew is a rag tag band of villains and thieves. There are worrying rumours that the pirates have set up a hideout in sea caves not too far from here. What are they planning? I have had the men preparing for an attack for days now. Stockpiling weapons, ammunition and enough shot to send the Wicked Wench to Davy Jones. I pray that we will have the strength to repel Barbossa and his crew of miscreants, but in my heart, I fear the worst.

By rights, I ought to be the freest pirate on the seas. With the Black Pearl under my command and the stars to guide us, endless escapades must be just over the horizon. Locating said aforementioned escapades, that's the tricky part. Since that nasty business with the Trident of Poseidon, adventure has been conspicuous by its absence. I rather hope that ridding the sea of unfortunate curses, the sort that once plagued poor Master Turner, hasn't also diminished its capacity to enchant me. Danger, intrigue, a plethora of potables, and something exceedingly shiny to cover isn't much to ask, is it? I can think of only one location still likely to provide me with any and all of the above.

This is crazy. I’ve met a dozen pirates who claim this island is haunted. Were all of them just teasing me? Laughing at me? I can’t accept that. I HAVE to meet a ghost! Talk to it, maybe. Find out why they never came back aboard the Ferry of the Damned. I have to know that there’s more, Dad. I have to prove it. I want to know, to make you believe, that someday we’ll get to see Jill again. 

Fleeing with a hold full of treasure, The Golden Hare retreated into a peculiar storm that turned out to be a Tunnel of the Damned. The {mention_character_nickname_2} and his crew ended up at Sailor's Grave in the Sea of the Damned.

In a desperate attempt to keep the Ferry of the Damned from ever coming to Sailor's Grave, the Cursed Captain snuffs out the light of the lighthouse and defeat the lighthouse keeper. In retaliation his crew grow restless of being trapped in the Sea of the Damned and mutiny, taking the Captain's skull and locking him away in a cage.

Some of the crew opt to take the treasure and hide it in Dead Man's Grotto, whilst a few remain in the town of Sailor's Grave.

If you’re reading this, you’ve broken into my strongbox, who makes you a worthy pirate indeed! Worthy enough to hear my plan. Transforming this old stomping ground of mine into a safe haven for travellers has sparked something deep within my soul. It is the flame of an idea — a great tavern, far more magnificent than the usual pubs and alehouses, known only to truly legendary pirates. A den that sold only the finest plunder, where hardened adventurers and cunning sea dogs could meet to swap stories of gold and glory. If you make it to the Sea of Thieves, and should your heart desire a real challenge, heed my words: seek Athena’s Fortune. I shall be waiting.

If my hands were large enough, I’d wring Duke’s neck! What does he think he’s doing, paying pirates to steal back the things I stole?! For now, though, I’ve got to cosy up to him and help him flog his junk crates. Make him think I’ve turned over a new leaf. As if! I mean, maybe he lost the Dark Relics we needed to resurrect you-know-who, but there’s more than one way to pluck a parrot. Once I’ve finished here I’ll head to the wreck of the Blackwyche and scrounge around for a few ‘leftovers’. Even a lock of hair’ll do… Word is, its Captain can’t resist playing the hero with that magic sword of his. That means I’ve just got to point him to the right place. 

It seems that my suspicions were correct. The Skeleton Lord who now pursues us is a bitter rival from my past. I have met Gold Hoarders with skin like midas’ own, and they claim it to be a consequence of handling cursed coin. Can a healthy, flesh and blood man really be transformed, in such a fashion as to command legions of the undead? On this strange, unknowable Sea of Thieves, it sometimes seems as though anything is possible. I shall consider the matter further as we make for Cannon Cove. 

Legend has it that The Aaron Leigh minted his own coins as a tribute to the architects of the seas. He sailed across the world to hand-deliver them, though one somehow ended up here.

To think when I began my hunt at Sharkbait Cove that it would end this way! Beaten and humiliated, my weapons tossed aside. I struggled and spat as her bony fingers knotted my repos together, binding me. Each threat I uttered only made her laugh harder. And yet… She was glorious! I cannot deny it. As of recent his resolve is a little bit shaken, being stripped of his Bilge Rat status and left to drift about the Sea of Thieves uncertain of his place in the world.

{mention_character_firstname_5} and crew return to the Sea of Thieves and decide on creating a hideout on the island that is now known as Thieves' Haven, stashing their loot and belongings there whilst out on other Voyages.

During their time on Thieves' Haven, {mention_character_firstname_6} invents various things, including an expanding metal that allows cannons to fire people to be made. {mention_character_firstname_3} becomes interested in the magical properties of the Sea of Thieves and starts documenting everything for her library.

One night, after returning from a Voyage, Ramsey and crew find their hideout ransacked, the place ruined and their treasure stolen. It is later revealed that this was planned by {mention_character_firstname_4} who was growing discontent with the way that Ramsey was doing things.

I’ve been around a long time, but I’ve never seen a box like this one. I dunno where my beloved dug it up from, but it stinks like a crypt. I’m actually pretty nervous. Messing around with curses is all well and good if you’re the Order of Souls, but it makes my teeth itch. What can I do, though? Master needs souls to summon his Ashen Lord, and if I want to stay in his good books, I’m the man to find ‘em. Sounds simple, but it ain’t, ‘cos to trap a soul in the chest I first need something that belongs to ‘em, not to mention more of them Dark Relics. Lucky for me, that trip I took to the Blackwyche has already given me everything I need…

It took some time, a lot of persuasion and following threads to loose ends but I finally got the answers I was seeking. Since I last wrote, I have discovered this new type of merfolk called Sirens and that they have a dark and complicated past. The chest that Dimitri found contains the soul of their King, which must mean the Silver Blade was dragged below. I can only hope some of the crew survived. The sirens have been sleeping, for how long I cannot tell, but something has awoken them — and their Queen still rages for her lost love, who is forever just out of her reach within this chest.

That kraken skull gave me an idea… I decided that if I were a ghost, I’d take notice pretty quickly if someone messed with my remains. I went around the island, gathering up all of the skulls I could find and piling them up. I found some candles, too, which is good. If I do meet an angry ghost, I certainly don’t want to do it in the dark. Also, now I can see to write down more of my adventure. Looks like a storm will be here by dawn. I miss the bed in my room, with all it’s familiar creaks. But I made a promise to myself. So… 

An individual who was raised with the finest education one could get, taught how to fence and how to swim, as well as navigation skills.

He was adopted very shortly after birth by Captain Flameheart, the reasons for this are currently unknown.

Hunting for the whereabouts of the final Shroudbreaker Gem, pirates come across two former crewmates of Captain Briggsy, Wild Rose and George. This couple was set to be married by Madame Olive but never arrived, leading her to worry about the safety of them.

Following the clues reveals that the pair were struck down by a Captain Rooke and their souls bound to objects. Retrieving these objects, defeating the jealous Rooke along the way, and returning them to Madame Olive allowed them to pass on to the Ferry of the Damned and to be together in the afterlife.

The outcome of this adventure is a clue regarding two other crews who were seeking the Shores of Gold.

The Reapers finished the construction of their camp and launched their new Trading Company, the Reaper's Bones. For this occasion, the shipwrights have charted the island on the ship maps and named it The Reaper's Hideout.

Reapers claim to be true to the spirit of piracy and revel in causing chaos and disruption to the other Trading Companies. Their representative is the Servant of the Flame, a mysterious figure who is completely cloaked and wears a golden mask.

Now that I've improved my penmanship, I can start recording the discoveries I made below the waves. I've always wanted to know more about the merfolk, where they came from, why they do what they do for us pirates. I never thought for a single moment that I'd come across a whole species I had never seen nor heard of before. From what I have discovered in the Shrine of Flooded Embrace, I pray we never see their like again.

This pirate scratched their name - ArchAngel Aeon - into the rock. Judging by the fish bones, they swam a very long way to reach this shore.

They say a pirate met his fate on the shores of Mermaid's Hideaway.

{mention_character_firstname_2} decided to sell the Whispering Chest to a merchant or vendor. As she was trying to find someone, her ship is assailed by The Salty Hippo and another ship. They fought them off and took Cole, the captain of The Salty Hippo, captive.

Cole revealed himself as a member of a group of bounty hunters known as The Twisted Knife. Whilst in the brig, he elicited knowledge about {mention_character_nickname_3} and the Whispering Chest.

Pirates from the mercenary group the Twisted Knife pursue Marisabel and the Plundered Crown.

In an adventure that is yet to be told, Ramsey discovers a pair of enchanted pistols. These pistols prevent any weapon from being fired in their presence, as well as gunpowder being unable to be lit. 
One of these pistols can be found in the Unfired Pistol Tavern, which Ramsey bought and made Rowenna the proprietor of.

Relieving of his duty as a Bilge Rat, {mention_character_firstname_2} leaves the Outposts for a more humbler abode – the Lagoon of Whispers.
Whilst he is in exile and figuring out his thoughts, he got help from Catherine of Three Paces East Seapost to learn how to write better, and helped spruce up {mention_character_firstname_3}'s home a little bit.

Duke moves in with Umbra on Lagoon of Whispers making a few renovations, and begins learning how to write better.

The eastern island of this small duo of uncharted islands started to show activity, as someone was digging what appeared to be a pit. The Masked Stranger took residence there, painting some mysterious sketches.

At the behest of the Merfolk, Ramsey and crew set out to rescue two Mer who had been captured by Captain Douglas. They arrive at the location with the ship lights off to approach as covertly as they could. Then, Shan and Rathbone used a river and headed downstream into a cave, as quiet as mice. Once inside, they discovered two imprisoned merfolks whom they hurried to free.

As they search for a way to escape, they come face to face with Douglas. During the battle, Ramsey flew backward and triggered some kind of ancient mechanism, possibly a trap left behind to protect the shrine. A ghostly blue light flooded the cave and illuminated Douglas, cursing slowly his flesh into stone. Merfolk, Ramsey and his crew escaped just in time before the shrine collapsed.

Knowing he'll need specialised help if he wants to cross the Shroud, {mention_character_firstname_12} seeks out additional crew members and a ship. He visits Magpie, the Shipwright, and buys a tiny vessel for this voyage to cross the Shroud. Then, he ends up meeting with {mention_character_firstname_9} in a dusty library, and {mention_character_firstname_10} in a pub. {mention_character_firstname_14}, an acquaintance of his, also agrees to join him in his adventure.

After days sailing through what felt like literal hell, Captain Ramsey and his crew of the Magpie's Wing make safe entrance into the then unnamed and uncharted Sea of Thieves, devoid of any human civilization. They discover the art of those long-dead people, venture into caves and ruins, explore wrecks, chart and note everything they can, take or bury everything they can't take.

Ramsey looks for people to join his expedition to cross the Shroud and discover what lies on the other side.

I have found some strange artefacts, which I believe to be what the Order of Souls calls 'Dark Relics'. Many of these arcane objects were stolen from them in an organised effort by the skeletons, though Duke was able to retrieve many. The Dark Relics were later used for terrible deeds, opening windows to other worlds and dispelling powerful curses!

We sailed far away from any islands and lost sight of any Skeleton Ships, which meant we had no way to offload any of these treasures to the Companies. I'd never seen skeletons chase us so doggedly and was starting to wonder if they might even be brave enough to attack an Outpost and steal our ill-gottent prizes. That was when I heard the crying coming from my cabin. The chest I'd stashed away in there had slipped my mind, but it clearly didn't want to be forgotten. Great rivulets of tears were still streaming from the face carved on the lid of the chest. The cursed thing had flooded half the ship while we were distracted! The crew are taking it in turns to bail, but it's the noise that gets me. You've never heard anything so mournful, so... hopeless. I swear it keeps getting louder...

Sneaking aboard the Ferry of the Damned, pirates placed the foreign Flame of Fate within the Well of Fates, causing it to implode and create an opening to the lower decks of the Ferry.

Here they meet with Captain {mention_character_name_2} and release him from the hold.

Shortly after, the Flying Dutchman attacks. In the midst of the struggle Jack loses the Greatest Pirate Treasure to an Ocean Crawler and then falls overboard into the Sea of the Damned.

The Mysterious Stranger is the character who acts as the representative of Athena's Fortune Trading Company. It is him you speak to earn the Pirate Legend Clothes, Shanty, and Title. Any loot relating to Athena's Fortune is also handed to him.
Notable Role: Quest-giver for "The Shroudbreaker" Tall Tale.
Traits: He is possibly a revenant, due to his glowing eyes.
Fun Facts: During the first year of Sea of Thieves he was known as 'George' and spoke in rhyming couplets.

Chief Trader Mollie is the founder of the Merchant Alliance Trading Company, an ex-employee of high ranking within in the Grand Maritime Union turned pirate after a botched attempt to bring a fleet of GMU ships through the Devil's Shroud.
She has respect for the many facets of the pirate's life on the Sea of Thieves.

The largest of the Shark Sculptures on Sharkbait Cove that also sits at the heart of the tangled nest of islets. 
Out on it's own rock, this sculpture has blue wavy lines painted on it and numerous pottery tributes lay around it.

As I sit here writing these words, I still can't quite believe I'm here. And, if I'm totally honest, I still don't fully understand why. I heard the song of the merfolk from the earrings they had gifted me. They said they had important information they wanted to entrust to me. Information I was to share with 'my kind'. They seemed concerned that if this tale remained untold, then one day, a great evil would be released back into the Sea of Thieves. So I set off by myself, following the bearing the merfolk gave me, and now here I am, in the Shrine of Hungering.

Pirate KaidaWrath and their crew became famous for defeating a Skeleton Fort… using not guns, but 100 baskets of angry snakes! That battle must have been a sight to behold. It just goes to show that being a pirate is about more than your weapons.

They say that Shark Fin Camp was once defeated by very unusual means.

I've come across strange activity by Duke. It seems he got much of his Black Market stock from these accursed Reaper's Chests. The things he couldn't use - piles of bones, mostly - he sold on as Rag and Bone Crates. Strange what people will do to make their way. These Pirate Emporium folks, for example. Once Gold Hoarders, now working for some outsider. But suck delightful pets they sell!

Stowing away on a boat,  managed to make her way into the Sea of Thieves. 
On Sanctuary Outpost she sets up a small 'Banana Stall' from which she overheard information. Witnessing a kerfuffle happening in the nearby Order of Souls tent, she managed to force her way into the crew of the Unforgiven, captained by {mention_character_firstname_3}. The other two crew members were {mention_character_firstname_4} and {mention_character_nickname_5}.
Together they discover Tribute Peak and have an encounter with the Gold Hoarder himself.
At the aftermath of her adventure, she is approached by the Pirate Lord and invited to become a Pirate Legend, to which she declined stating she still had many more adventures to go on. 
Larinna eventually went on to found the Bilge Rats, a ragtag group of pirates who find the fun in exploring new horizons, creating daring challenges, and not having themselves be beholden to the Trading Companies.

Larinna starts her pirate life by setting up a small Banana Stall and forces her way into the crew of the Unforgiven.

Sunken Journal from Umbra, a Mystery of the Shrine of Ancient Tears.

I thought I knew all there was to know about the merfolk, but after visiting the Shrine I felt like I was missing something. A part of their story that might explain this strange place. So I asked around. That's when tales of ships being dragged below by creatures that looked like merfolk started to surface. I couldn't believe my ears, the merfolk wouldn't act this way. What on the seas could be happening? I spoke to every pirate who knew anything and they all told the same tale: a terrible scratching on their hulls and the sound of a sad voice on the wind.

Pirates sought advice from the Ferryman himself about the whereabouts of the Morningstar crew – a crew looking for the way to the Shores of Gold themselves. He revealed that a special Lantern is necessary to uncover the truth and rescue the stranded souls of the Morningstar crew, giving pirates the location of his grave where the Lantern was buried with him.

After saving the Morningstar Crew, it is revealed that one member managed to escape. Speaking to Sandra the Shipwright at Dagger Tooth Outpost begins a sequence of events retracing the last voyage of the Morningstar to track down Lord Graymarrow. Skeleton Runes are first categorised in the journal here, alongside their cipher. 

Graymarrow is confronted and defeated, which yields the final Shroudbreaker Gem. Sandra admits that she is Jill, the runaway member of the Morningstar crew.

Pirates are enlisted by the Ferryman to save the lost souls of the Morningstar crew which leads to a confrontation with Lord Graymarrow.

Madame Olivia revealed that Briggsy recently paid a visit to Salty the parrot. The self-serving bird may know more about her plans to conceal the Shroudbreaker.

Salty rarely stays in one place for long, but was recently spotted soaring above Plunder Valley. Whether he can be trusted is another matter.  

An infamous trap-maker knows of the Shroudbreaker — but will she turn out to be friend or foe?

DeMarco and Lesedi Singh lead a lengthy campaign to garner the favour of the other Trading Companies resulting in the formation of their own Trading Company, the Sea Dogs. With the Sea Dogs they open The Arena, a contest that welcomes all pirates to show their mettle and skills. 

Their base is the Glorious Sea Dogs Tavern, which is located in K-11 where the construction had been happening on the large arch-way rock formation.

Notable members of the Sea Dogs are The Big Dog Dimitri, who gives advice within the Glorious Sea Dogs Tavern, and Amaranta, third in command who has a more ruthless streak than the twins and takes her post outside the Glorious Sea Dogs Tavern.

Demarco and Lesedi Singh set up the Sea Dog Trading Company which focuses on rewarding pirates for their prowess in The Arena.

He has a weakness! At last, here at Marauder’s Arch, I was able to seize orders scrawled by Graymarrow himself. By his own hand, I have learned that even Graymarrow must sometimes rest his wicked bones below the soil. If he could be taken by surprise, it might be possible to defeat him… but our food is gone. Our cannons empty. Instead, we must limp back to Boulder Cay, beach our vessel in the shallows there and make our final stand together. My crew are terrified, we but sail on. I could not be more proud, and can only hope that one day we shall be avenged.

with the help of the Ashen Lord Old Horatio, Captain Adara transported {mention_character_nickname_2}'s remains on the Ashen Dargon.
Along the way, the Ashen Dragon is assailed by two ships, one captained by Martha Janes and the other Randall Stone. They failled to capture the ship and both their souls are trapped inside their remains.
After completing their Voyage, Old Horatio parts the Shroud and the Ashen Dragon goes into hiding.

I was right to be afeared. Her rage was like a terrible storm. I would have been better to slip away into the swamps than dare to return to her empty handed. The fact that the damned monkey stared down at me from the rafters seemed to count for nothing. If anything, it only made her angrier. She screamed and shouted about the importance of bargains and how people should stay true to their word. She turned away from me and reached into her pocket. Suddenly she spun round and blew powder into my face. When I woke, I was here. If you find my bones, heed my words. Do not cross, Tia Dalma!

With Jack Sparrow in tow, {mention_character_nickname_2} directed pirates to the Coral Fortress, the bastion of Davy Jones, in order to get back the Greatest Pirate Treasure.

As pirates and Jack make their way through the Coral Fortress, the Dark Brethren convened in the heart of the fortress, where they discussed their plans for a ritual to merge the Sea of Thieves with the Sea of the Damned.

One evening in a tavern, Mercia meets an old woman who tells her that she has seen something strange in the water and made a detailed map to find back this place. In her quest to find some of the magic of the Sea of Thieves, Mercia decides to recover this map from the wreck of the old woman's galleon that sank after a battle.

After retrieving the map, Mercia and crew set sail very closely to the Devil's Shroud at this location that is barely an island and has only a sinkhole at its center. During their exploration in these underwater tunnels, Mercia and Ramsey discover a mysterious chamber lit by magical blue flames and two pearl earrings.

The moment Mercia put the earrings on, the strange echo that surrounded the maze became a joyful chorus and two mermaids and their queen appeared in the central pool. The earrings were allowing Mercia to communicate with the merfolk. The latter thought Mercia and Ramsey were the descendants of the Ancients and remembered them.

As they follow the tale of an old woman, Mercia and Ramsey discover two pearl earrings and make contact with the Merfolk.

Duke is looking for a precious treasure and has found scattered around the Sea of Thieves mysterious Stone Tablets with Skeleton Runes carved on them. Legends say that something big is happening.

The Sea of Thieves records its first instance of fog as more species of Megalodon begin to appear. There are four more different colourations of the creatures, with reports of a rare white version being encountered by some. 
Cursed Mermaids Statues made a return during this period, this time precious Mermaid Gems can be obtained by destroying these monuments.

Fog appears across the Sea of Thieves as more types of Megadolon wake up.

On Smuggler's Bay lived a pirate famed for his stolen hoard. He left a mark on the Southwest Beach.

Salty was once a shopkeeper on the Outposts of the Sea of Thieves before engaging in a partnership with Wanda the Weaponsmith that would eventually lead to him being cursed into a skeletal parrot.

Old Boot Fort becomes corrupted due to a ritual involving the Dark Relics and becomes the Fort of the Damned.

Stitcher Jim observed the Fort of the Damned from Castaway Isle, informing pirates how to tackle the Fort.

When the Fort of the Damned is 'activated' by placing the corresponding Flames of Fate in the statues and a Ritual Skull is placed in the altar, Shadows of Fate swarm the island. The Ghost of Lord Graymarrow appears during the final wave of Shadows.

After seeing a vision of an older version of herself, achieved from scrying a skull for the first time, she sought the Sea of Thieves to become the person she believed she was destined to be. 
Showmanship seems to be in her nature as she is fond of hamming up the mystical deeds and acts her company are known for.

I've explored many bizarre and interesting places in my time, but this has to be my favourite! Beautiful waterfalls, areas hidden away until you drain water from them, ancient doorways that open when you light torches, I love it! But this place has left me with so many questions. Who collected the skulls? Why is this ancient building deep beneath the waves? And most importantly of all, where is the key for that triangular lock — and what's inside?

There was once a great battle that shook the whole heavens, and caused great sadness to Sudds’s friends above. Great Warrior knew that he would have to battle Old Kraken, for she planned to feast on the merfolk and their kin. To fletch the arrows he would need, Warrior told Proud Eagle to give up eight of his feathers, or they would go to war. Eagle refused, of course, and tore at Warrior with his sharp talons, but it was no use. Warrior fled with his golden prizes! He dropped one feather as he fell back to earth, and it’s still in the stars! Sudds wants to see it from the moon-shaped isle…

The merfolk possessed stones that could hold powerful magic and the Sea Queen believed it was these that would bridge the gap between her world and the one of her lover. The Warrior and the Sea Queen believed their love was strong enough to survive the consequences for breaking the sacred rules of their people. So the Sea Queen used a Mermaid Gem to turn her lover into a merfolk.

The transformation was successful but unleashed a terrible curse that robbed the Queen of her song. The curse became known as the Whispering Plague and could be transferred by a simple scratch, spreading quickly to the Sea Queen's people.

The Song of a merfolk is part of who they are, their soul and their collective memory. Without their song these merfolk became something else, something twisted and leaving only darkness.

Those afflicted were exiled, likely as a preventative measure to keep it from spreading. This new branch of merfolk became known as the Sirens. When they found their voices once more, theirs was now a song of sorrow — the Siren Song — a grief for all that they had lost.

The transformation of the Warrior to a merfolk unleashed a terrible curse known as the Whispering Plague that robbed the Sea Queen and her people of their Song.

This place reeks worse than the drinking den where I tell my stories, but at least it’s warm and dry. It’ll do! I can’t wait to see that little girl’s face when I tell her Briggsy made it to the Shores of Gold. Not sure I can risk bringing Sudds along. He means well, but it’s a long voyage and he’s not exactly nimble. I hope he’ll understand… Well, the storm’s easing off. Time to snatch myself a Shroudbreaker!

Some experimentation with weight and counterweights have allowed me to devise a new trigger, as well as protection for my workshop. Even working with wood, for metal is precious and in short supply, I can use the weight of any intruder to spring a nearby trap. As sensitive as these devices are, it is nearly impossible to disguise them entirely. Thus, they are best deployed in darker areas. Unfortunately, I have been unable to completely muffle the noise made by the mechanism when someone blunders onto it. A cunning criminal with sharp ears might, I suppose, get enough warning to save their own skin. Regardless, I am making progress…

The {mention_character_nickname_2} wished to make amends with the Ancients despite protests from the {mention_character_nickname_3} and so went to meet with their Ruler.

The Siren King was met with hostility and chained up and bound at the behest of the Ancient's Ruler, fearing and coveting his power. This sparked a war between the Sirens and the Ancients as the Siren Queen sought to bring her King back. Eventually the Ancients sealed the chained Siren King in one of their Vaults, and bound his soul to a chest which later became known as the Chest of Eternal Sorrow.  

The Siren King wished to make amends with the Ancients despite protests from the Siren Queen and so went to meet with their Ruler.

If there’s one thing pirates love more than their rum bottles, it’s making up ridiculous names for their pitiful fights of fancy. They insisted that Briggsy, my quarry, has been transformed into a ‘Skeleton Lord’ with others at her beck and call. Did they really expect to scare me with this revelation? Whether or not they can walk and talk, bones can be broken just the same. It makes me all the more eager to hunt the rat down and put her in her place. Perhaps we’ll finally meet at Kraken’s Fall…

Sanctuary Outpost is a beautiful place. Rumour has it the tavern hosts some legendary art.

Too late once again, but by a matter of minutes. The ashes of her campfire were still smouldering, her prints fresh. If the wind remains fair, I’ll make it to Crook’s Hollow in time to introduce myself, and we’ll see how brave Briggsy really is. Her crew deserve no such consideration. I’ll smash them before they even know I’m there. A ‘’fair fight’ for hunter and prey. Her smart-mouthed skull will fetch a handsome price — that is, if I don’t decide to keep it as a trophy for myself instead…

Pendragn only went and ruddy did it! We all saw Flameheart, larger than life, letting the whole Sea of Thieves know that he’s back! Next thing I know, I’m sailing out so that I can swear my allegiance to him. Sorry, Rathbone, but Stitcher Jim’s got a new master now… Being here in the Devil’s Roar puts me dangerously close to Cap’n Sorrow, but so what? She’ll get here soon enough. The master’s plan will birth the first of his new Ashen Lords, and there’ll be more where that came from! All loyal to him — to US! Everyone who ever did wrong by Stitcher Jim — Sorrow, the Bilge Rats, the Order of Souls — is about to be sorry. Very sorry indeed… 

Pirates were sent to {mention_character_name_2} to collect the completed Shroudbreaker totem. She gave them the journal of Captain {mention_character_firstname_3} to help them along the way to finding and overcoming the trials that await at the Shores of Gold.

The Shores of Gold are only accessible with the Shroudbreaker enabling ships to sail safely though the Devil's Shroud. There, pirates found Tribute Peak, a massive island containing many remnants of an Ancient Civilisation. In the tunnels beneath the island {mention_character_nickname_4} lurked, illuminating the truth behind the name 'Shores of Gold'.

After the Gold Hoarder's defeat, {mention_character_nickname_5} appears and congratulates those who took part on this journey. He asks pirates to leave the treasure there as it has claimed the hearts of too many already. Finally, he reminds pirates that it's not about the gold, but about the glory.

With the Shroudbreaker completed, pirates find the Shores of Gold and defeat the Gold Hoarder.

A pirate who came across the abandoned Silver Blade and took it as his own.

With his crew he sailed the Sea of Thieves for awhile doing well for themselves. They would eventually come across a Voyage that would lead them to an Ancient Vault that held the remains of the Siren King and the Chest of Everlasting Sorrow.

After retrieving the Chest and remains, Dimitri and the Silver Blade was pursued by Skeletons and then attacked by Sirens who dragged it under the waves.

His last known whereabouts were in the Siren Citadel, where he and his crew came face to face with the Sirens and their Ocean Crawlers.

This art depict the incredible moment when the bold Captain Ash Bacon and her crew harpooned their ship to a Megalodon. The chase was fast, epic and impressive - until the shark ditched Ash Bacon by running her Galleon aground and fleeing the scene!

My mama is always cursing the pirates and saying they are bad men with no souls. I don't think this is true. I think they just don't like rules and want to have fun. I think I would like to be a pirate! If I was in the pirate league I could go on adventures and find buried treasure and go to bed whenever I liked! I've been practicing burying treasure! I've even written a treasure map rhyme because all maps have to rhyme! 'Behind a courtyard you will find an X with the loot, but it's hard to find.' Does that rhyme?

Jack Sparrow stole the greatest pirate treasure of all time, a Golden Key to other lands. Using this treasure he crossed his precious horizon, discovering the pirate world of Sea of Thieves in the process.

A collection of 'Dark Relics' are stolen from The Order of Souls. Seeking help from Duke, he and the Order had pirates hunt down Skellie Captains and search for the whereabouts of the lost Dark Relics.
During this time Reaper's Chests began appearing. These cursed boxes send out a beam of red light until picked up, but will stay marked on all ship's map tables until handed over.

Brave little Glimmer Fish…. He used to swim down here in the water with all of his brothers and sisters, shining in the sun. Sometimes it’s not wise to shine too brightly… Bigger fish came with empty bellies, and their teeth went snicker-snack! Soon Glimmer Fish was the only one left to guide the ancient ones on their journey here. One brave little light, all alone… The ancients felt sorry for Glimmer Fish and placed him in the heavens where he could swim in safety. Lucky little fishy! Now Sudds must swim along too, all the way to the shores named after the sneaky snake…

I am run proper ragged! It’s so hot down here I can’t hardly breathe, but guess who’s got to make sure all the traps are working? I don’t dare complain though. Rathbone could be scary but most of the time it was like you weren’t in the room. Only his gold mattered. When the master speaks, it’s like he knows what you’re thinking. He’s smart. Scary smart, and he believes Pendragon will try to stop the ritual. Well, let him try, I say! No matter how many pirate pals he brings along, they’ll never make it through to me in time. Speaking of time… I should head t the Ritual Chamber. All my hard work’s finally about to pay off! Finally, Stitcher Jim gets what he deserves. 

Upon the Sea of Thieves, many stories have been told, Of ancient creatures, hoards of gold and of pirates great and bold. But the tales that matter most, at least that is to me, are the ones of love and laughter, and friendship on the sea. Cap'n "Scruffy" Beardstroker.

Even while being forced to work against my will — and don’t think I don’t know which bird-brain is responsible — I still have my pride. As the greatest Trapmaker the Sea of Thieves has ever seen, I must devise something brilliant to protect an equally brilliant treasure. How, then, shall I prove the effectiveness of my creation? Why, by using a few greedy, grog-addled gold-diggers as guinea-pigs! I shall begin my experiments upon Discovery Ridge. A few barrels packed with gewgaws should entice pirates into my game… 

Pirates were sent to the Sea of the Damned to find a specific individual, winding up at Dead Man's Grotto and then Sailor's Grave. Here they came across the Cursed Captain and helped him to make right by his crew. In return, he helped pirates to sneak aboard the Ferry of the Damned.

Umbra, a member of a group of cartographers and historians named the Scribes, is taken captive by Captain Bronzebeard due to her extensive knowledge of the Sea of Thieves. She is thrown into the brig with another prisoner Blind Bob to interpret his ramblings and find where he buried a stash of Golden Bananas.
She managed to escape the ship and found herself shipwrecked on an island – the very island where Blind Bob hid the Golden Bananas as luck would have it. After a few days a band of pirates arrived on the island who helped her to find the Golden Bananas in exchange for rescuing her.
After this, she left the Sea of Thieves.

After escaping a ship, Umbra wound up on an island where Captain Bronzebeard hid Golden Bananas. She was rescued by pirates and left the Sea of Thieves.

You completed the Mystery of the Shrine of Flooded Embrace Commendation.

Pirates! You can't trust them. Jones's fortress was barely in view before my crew got savvy to our destination and promptly abandoned ship. The only ones left were Gibbs, who's followed me to the ends of the earth already, Anamaria, who'd never back down from a fight, and Scrum, who... was there. I deployed an upturned rowboat – an old favourite of mine – to sneak across the sea bed, keeping careful watch for any suspicious shellfish in Jones' employ. Ragetti had previously recovered Calypso's locket in an uncharacteristic moment of usefulness, and its tune carried me into the heart of the Dutchman. There, on a shelf in Jones's cabin, I first laid eyes on what was to become my Treasure. The greatest fortune a pirate could hope for. A key to countless seas.

The First Ones. The Lost Tribes. The Ancients. Whatever you call them, they were the original inhabitants of what we now know as the Sea of Thieves.
Signs of their civilisation can be found all over the place: cave paintings, potteries, and other artefacts. They built temples, altars — places that were important to them. The Ancients had ships and even a few pirates. There were also artisans and sculptors, philosophers and painters. Their currency was possibly the Ancient Coin, a rare coin emblazoned with what appears to be a skull.

They were an intelligent and creative community, they charted star constellations, told stories, and became aware of the magic that the Sea of Thieves offered. As they mastered the use of magic, they created specially imbued relics such as the Shroudbreaker. They have also been claimed to have used Kraken Ink to see the future, much like how the Order of Souls use Kraken Ink in recent times.

It is unknown if they were all one united people, or if they lived in different tribes. The monolithic statues found on Tribute Peak at least suggest that there were ten key figures in their society.

The long-lost civilisation that built the Ancient Temples, left behind mysterious relics, and created the Shroudbreaker.

{mention_character_firstname_3}, head of the Gold Hoarder Trading Company and living in wealth outside of the Sea of Thieves, became disillusioned with life despite his hoard of gold and treasure continuing to amass. 
One day he heard about the Shores of Gold, a golden island in the Sea of Thieves and set sail alone to this place.
Eventually he found Tribute Peak and made his way through the ruins of the Ancients, finding a throne chamber filled with all sorts of gold and jewels. As he sat in the throne he became overcome by greed, and he began the arduous task of moving the treasure from the throne room and back to his ship, piling on as much as his ship could carry. 
As he attempted to leave the island, he was confronted by the combined forces of {mention_character_name_4} and {mention_character_firstname_5} with a fleet of ships. They attack Rathbone and his ship sinks. 
As he sunk, he attempted to collect as much of the lost loot as he could, this lust for gold fuelling and sustaining him began his transformation into the Gold Hoarder, a Skeleton Lord with a body compromised of parts of gold and precious gems. Embedded upon his skull is a ancient key used to open locks within certain siren shrines.

Rathbone, a greedy and wealthy pirate, becomes the Gold Hoarder upon his death, a skeleton lord with a body made of gold and gems.

Stitcher Jim prepared a new voyage that focused on collecting Humble Gifts and Generous Gifts and then giving those to the Masked Stranger. Pirates were encouraged to swap Gifts with other crews to earn more Doubloons.

Xbox Addict may be an unusual pirate name, but this truly legendary swashbuckler reached a level of admiration and honour that few dream of. With help from Geordie Tommy, the two crafted this beautiful book to show off their talents. They say it once contained an incredible surprise.

I wanted a pirate lair, an' now I'm in charge of a whole pirate town! More ships an' sailors keep smashin' into the rocks, bringin' new arrivals and supplies. It's that witless Lighthouse Keeper's fault fer lettin' the flame go out so often, but I let the pirates tay just so long as they join me ever-growin' crew. I heard one ungrateful cur call this town a Sailor's Grave, but I say that's a fine name. Why should we return to the land o' the livin' an' risk losin' me plunder? Me greedy First Mate wants to move the whole haul into Dead Man's Grotto to keep it safe, but I'm not lettin' so much as a coin out of me sight... So long as we remain, the treasure will be ours and ours alone. An' if those scurvy dogs don't want their share, so be it. I'll take the whole heap for meself!

In Taverns across the Sea of Thieves word began to spread of a fabled island known as the Shores of Gold, which was claimed to contain the greatest hoard of gold.

Many pirate crews set out to find the Shroudbreaker Relic at the behest of the Mysterious Stranger, following the Pirate Lord's Journal to its location. 

Upon finding the Shroudbreaker, they are told that it had lost its power due to gems being removed from the idol.

A pirate once tried his luck catching a Sandy Battlegill here, using his cunning to sneak aboard a Skeleton Galleon. However the Lonely Beacon thought otherwise to his plans.

The search for the sunken Black Pearl leads pirates to the Sunken Kingdom, a domain below the waves belonging to the Sirens. Here pirates are lured by a mysterious voice through the Siren Spire and Siren Citadel, eventually leading to a confrontation with the Siren Queen.

With the Siren Queen's defeat, the pirates leave the Citadel, freeing Gibbs, Anamaria, and Scrum from Cursed Mermaid Statues on their way out.

Amid the chaos of the Kraken attack during the Parlay of Golden Sands outpost, {mention_character_firstname_4} took the opportunity to steal the set of Skeleton Keys from Ramsey and to betray his former friend and Captain. Rathbone then sets up the Gold Hoarder Trading Company, using a suggestion from {mention_character_nickname_2}, to get pirates to find the locked treasure chests. The deal is that the Gold Hoarders, who have access to the Skeleton Keys, will open the treasure chests and give a cut of the gold to the pirate who gave them the chest.

Rathbone sets up the Gold Hoarders Trading Company in order to gather up all the riches in the Sea of Thieves.

It is most disconcerting to be unsure of one's own precise position in the world. I would have sworn that my men and I were aboard my vessel... But as I am a Company Man, I shall continue to server the interests of the Company. I can see that Jones and the pirates are locked in opposition, just as before. This must, therefore, be the battle for which I have been preparing. There is no other logical explanation, and thus I shall continue to follow my plan. The chest of Davy Jones shall be guarded with my solders' lives, if necessary. The Flying Dutchman will certainly destroy that ragtag pirate alliance soon enough. And the, once Sparrow is dead, and Jones is of no more use... Like the strings of the heart, unprofitable relationships are best severed. It's just good business.

The worst part about being locked up in that old prison, apart from the smell, was thinking I'd only ever dreamed that I'd escaped. Then the beardy bloke arrived. I say arrived... Fired a cannon shot clear through the wall of me cell, he did! Talk about making an entrance... Well, an exit. As we sailed away he told me that it was the prison that was the dream – I really had escaped back in the day! It was one of them metty-for things, he said. I don't much care for being locked up, especially not when I've already broken out once, so I was more than happy to throw my lot in with him. If this Dark Brethren can keep me out of any more metty-fors, I'm more than happy to raise a sword in their name. I reckon others'll feel the same way...

The deed is done. A great door protects the remains, and will keep pirates and other intruders at bay. I have ensured it can only be opened from within. When the last of the Rites had been completed, our Commander bade us set course, deep into the Devil’s Shroud itself. I thought perhaps he meant for its tendrils to destroy the Ashen Dragon as it has so many other ships, but he gave me one last order. Once he had spoken, the Commander burned so fiercely that even the fog seemed afraid, and so a path was cleared. Such is the might of an Ashen Lord! He is naught but dust now, his power expended. As ordered, we will pass through the Shroud and into hiding until we are needed once more. One day, we shall summon us, and the world shall once again know the fury of the Ashen Dragon…

Even with all the wonders I’ve experienced, it’s the simple things in life remain the most enjoyable. Tonight, that’s a hot meal roasted over a roaring fire. Fresh fruit’s all well and good, but if you take the time to properly prepare a meal, you’ll feel all the better for it. The trick is to keep an eye on the dish and serve it up when it’s perfectly cooked. No amount of grog can wash away the taste of burned food. With care and a bit of practice, even a humble splashtail can keep a pirate in good health with a full belly. At least they’re good for something!

Rathbone was a friend of Ramsey, joining him in his maiden voyage through the Devil's Shroud and to the Sea of Thieves on the Magpie's Wing.

Born to a businessman and raised to follow in his footsteps, Rathbone was a calculated individual who a sharp memory. He built up his own business but a combination of his own greed and a habit of undercutting his rivals eventually led to having a warrant out for him. Disgraced, he joined with the thieves and criminals he'd once employed and made a name for himself as a pirate. 
How he and Ramsey first met it unknown, but they did hold a respect for each other and sailed many times together, proving to be a formidable duo.

Rathbone had other plans when it came to the pirate's life, especially in the new frontiers that the Sea of Thieves offered. He sought to obtain all the riches for himself and didn't much approve of Ramsey's sway toward the mystical and magical mysteries of the world. It was him who gave Stitcher Jim the location of a stash of maps that showed the safe entry to the Sea of Thieves, and he would go on to later betray Ramsey.

He set up the Gold Hoarders Trading Company to collect all the locked chests that Ramsey had hidden, giving his underlings limited access to the Skeleton Keys he stole from Ramsey.
As the Company grew, Rathbone had no need to stay in the Sea of Thieves and lived as a wealthy individual on a fine estate elsewhere. 

Tales of the Shores of Gold brought him back to the Sea of Thieves and would prove to be his demise. He found the fabled island, sat upon the Throne in it's deepest halls and plotted to leave with all the treasure he could. As he left on his loot burdened sloop he was confronted by ships that were part of the Pirate Lord's Alliance. They fired upon his ship and he sank, but a curse had already taken ahold of him and he spent countless days and months taking back his sunken loot to the Throne Room of Tribute Peak. It was here that he began his slow transformation into The Gold Hoarder proper.

As a Skeleton Lord he kept some semblance of his mind despite it being driven by a greed for gold and wealth, and kept in contact with the members of his Trading Company who in turn brought him tributes.

You don't need Umbra to know the legend of Kato, the most beloved dog on the seas. Patting him on the head was sure to bring fortune to your voyages!

The recent return of Captain Flameheart — a hot-headed Skeleton Lord — is having fiery repercussions around the Sea of Thieves. This book is about Duke selling gunpowder to the Trading Companies… signed by 'Umbra'.
The skeletons once began hoarding huge amount of gunpowder, known since as 'Black Powder Stashes'. The Trading Companies didn't like that, so Duke of the Bilge Rats saw a chance to make the seas safer while also making a lot of gold. It seems this was Duke's first step towards acquiring the connections and capital needed to launch the Black Market.

This package is part of a correspondence between caring pirates from different regions. Becoming friends despite living far apart, they sent this care package of confectionary - but the contents were scoffed long ago.

They say that an unusual merchant delivery ended up on the docks at Morrow's Peak.

{mention_character_nickname_3} created four Ashen Lords, each one of them given a different role within his armada and his plans. These were his most elite commanders and stalwart followers who willingly underwent the transformation. The ritual for creating an Ashen Lord involves a Chest of Rage, Ashen Jewels, an Ashen Curse, and a sacrifice.

Old Horatio was the shipwright of Flameheart's fleets and the recruiter, pressganging skellies into servitude aboard his ships. He knew binding magic. His final act was parting the Devil's Shroud with his power before turning to dust.

Red Ruth was the alchemist and weaponsmith, original creator of the Cursed Cannonballs. Either it was the cannons of the Burning Blade themselves or the cannonballs that Red Ruth imbued with curse magic.

Captain Grimm built the fortresses around the Sea of Thieves as places to store and protect treasure that was stolen and meant as tribute for Flameheart Sr.

Warden Chi was in charge of a prison where Flameheart Sr sent enemies who were captured. She was to make sure those kept in incarceration were kept alive, albeit tortured.

A core part of what powers an Ashen Lord is a relic known as an Ashen Jewel, used in conjunction with the Ashen Curse.

You’ve claimed the Shourdbreaker as your own, but vital pieces are missing. It seems a fearsome Skeleton Lord known as Briggsy may know their locations — but first, she must be hunted down.

Pirates are instructed to find the whereabouts of Captain Briggsy, the only person known to have reached the Shores of Gold and returned, to uncover more information about the Shroudbreaker.

Following information from Madame Olivia, an enchanted compass is created that points to the location of Captain Briggsy. A clash with the now Skeleton Lord Briggsy happens when she is found. Her skull left behind in the aftermath yields more clues when returned to Madame Olivia about where the Shroudbreaker Gems have been hidden.

Pirates encounter the Skeleton Lord Briggsy and defeat her to find out the locations of the Shroudbreaker gems.

There's a very old pirate out there with cat-like reflexes, known as SayHeyRocco. When you hear 'Meow Meow, Kiss Kiss', you know they were coming! When that pirate got hold of several chickens and the coloured lights of the Ferry, things got even stranger!

Rumour has it that a strange scene was painted on a large rock on Chicken Isle.

My first test relied on the curiosity of the participant. First, I primed the location with some supplies that might attract a passer-by. Next, a simple wooden lever was placed by the barrels. When utilised, it would strike a flint and so ignite a hidden powder-keg. I had rather assumed natural whimsy would see the lever pulled once spotted, and tucked myself away to observe what came next. The first pirate to arrive promptly wrenched my lever from its housing and absconded with it. “Nice hat stand”, I heard him remark. Subterfuge bests psychology when dealing with such avaricious crooks. I shall return to my workshop, and to the drawing board…

As a reaction to too many pirates stealing from each other and killing one another, {mention_character_firstname_14} calls a parlay at Golden Sands Outpost to create some order, proposing an alliance with him as the leader. Accompanied by his crew, {mention_character_firstname_4}, {mention_character_firstname_6} and {mention_character_firstname_7}, but there were also notable pirates like {mention_character_name_9}, {mention_character_name_10}, {mention_character_firstname_11}, and {mention_character_nickname_12} who attended this parlay.

Ramsey presented during this Parlay treasure chests that had been locked with the enchanted chains and locks, with the only way to open them was with the set of Skeleton Keys he had in his possession. These treasure chests weren't the only ones he made, as he hid many more across the islands of the Sea of Thieves.

The parlay was interrupted by the arrival of a Kraken that had been awoken when Old Mother's remains were disturbed. The pirates present banded together to fight off the Kraken. Shan used a Chest of Sorrows in the battle to defeat the Kraken.

A parlay is called at Golden Sands Outpost to propose an alliance with Ramsey as the leader until a Kraken wakes up.

This pirate had the bright idea of writing out all their skills and pirating history, to ensure they found gainful employment with future crews. It's a good job that the law doesn't come to the Sea of Thieves…

On Golden Sands, filling your crew is easy when the pirates advertise in the tavern.

Three previously unseen Skeleton Lords started to appear at active Forts, they were The Duchess, The Mutinous Helmsman, and The Two-Faced Scoundrel.

Sightings of a strange skeleton appearing on islands start circulating. These skeletons crawl their way out of the ground and run from any nearby pirates. Many of those who managed to defeat these skeletons report a stash of Ancient Coins being left behind.

Rumours of artefacts beneath the waves are being whispered as Cursed Mermaid statues beckon pirates with mysterious murmurs. They began to appear in deep water and on shorelines across the islands of the Sea of Thieves.

Seeing them as an opportunity, Duke sets up the second Bilge Rat Adventure, asking pirates to test their mettle by destroying these statues and breaking their curse. Even though they might look beautiful and valuable, Duke warns that when approached these statues cause harm.

Humphrey is a representative of the Gold Hoarders Trading Company, and he has seemingly earned himself a high position with the ranks.

Originally a humble merchant outside of the Sea of Thieves, he refused an offer by the Grand Maritime Union and found himself being run out of business. They used their influence to blacklist Humphrey and cause him to fall on bad times. 
He struggled to get by, and as a means to make ends meet for his ill wife AnnaLee, he joined a pirate crew headed for the Sea of Thieves.

He learned how to run a ship, becoming a useful member of the crew, but he longed for his merchant days. His curiosity was piqued when he met a member of the Gold Hoarders, Hogarth, begging the man to teach him how to become a member. Hogarth took him on as an apprentice. 

In time Humphrey wished to serve a higher power and questioned Hogarth about his Key tattoo, expressing interest in getting one of his own. Hogarth obliged and took him to an island in secret to meet with The Brotherhood. They give him his own Key tattoo and he shortly afterwards meets with the Gold Hoarder himself, receiving a Skeleton Key from him.

Still thinking of his wife back home, he sends a small amount of his earnings back to her every so often. He is caught doing this by another Gold Hoarder and told of the dire consequences this could have, and so he writes to the Gold Hoarder to explain his position and to beg for forgiveness.

Since the Gold Hoarder's disappearance, Humphrey seems to have taken a higher role within the Company, organising the usage of Ancient Vaults and co-ordinating the efforts of the other representatives.

This Warrior is not the hero I first took him for! His love for the Sea Queen was so all-consuming that he was willing to try anything to be by her side.
